At times this season, it seemed Tennessee basketball star Chris Lofton was fighting to find his shot. In fact, what he was fighting was far more serious. Lofton, 22, underwent surgery and radiation treatments to battle testicular cancer following the end of his junior season, ESPN.com reported Thursday. He is currently cancer-free but must be monitored for a recurrence of the cancer the rest of his life. The university, Lofton and Coach Bruce Pearl issued a statement Thursday confirming the illness but offered few details.

Wow, I suppose things like this really put life and sports in perspective. It's not really how many points you score or how many games you win, but how you live to help others and to use the talents that God gave you in your time on Earth.

Lofton's jersey will be in the rafters at Thompson-Bowling soon because of the heart he showed on the court. It turns out that his heart is even stronger off the court.

Best wishes for the future, Chris.
