Rookie Henne has shot to start

When asked Friday if Chad Henne has a legitimate shot to attain the starting job this year, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano made it clear that each of the three quarterbacks ( John Beck, Henne and Josh McCown) will have their opportunities. ''We have a quarterback competition here,'' Sparano said. ``So from that standpoint, at the end of this, we're going to find out who the best quarterback is. If it's Chad, it's Chad. If it's Beck, it's Beck. If it's McCown, it's McCown.'' Beyond his ability on the field, Henne was able to make more of an impression with his presence in the huddle Friday, which is something that seemed to enthuse Sparano.

So he becomes the starter.....big deal. Miami isn't gonna win anything in the near future anyway. just remember this Miami, Henne never won a big game for Michigan.

Neither did Tom Brady, and I think that worked out okay.

The Dolphins are down, but little moves like this are what brings a team back. Henne may suck, but he could be the answer.

Did anyone think Derek Anderson was going to be a stud last year?

The best move Miami made was drafting Long for that o-line. I'm sure he will be a pro bowl player.

Captain America |..All good points. And the list could go on and on. So what did Big Ben win in college? Who was the last Super Bowl winning QB to win " Big Games" in college?"

May 3, 2008  10:43 AM ET

Peyton Manning couldn't beat Florida in college! Of course Henne has a chance to start, he's competing with Beck and McGowan. I'm just surprised the Fins were able to find a helmet that fits his huge jarhead!

Scout to Bill Polian in 1998: We shouldn't draft this Manning kid. He never won a big game in college. Besides, that Leaf guy has all the upside in the world. Big, strong arm. Yeah. Don't draft Manning. He'll be a bust.

You're an idiot Yankeesteroiduser. You shouldn't post on here anymore.

Anyone who thinks Parcells will not get a roster to make these guys a good football team in the near future has not been paying attention the last twenty-five years...History tells us they will be good, and soon. You would only be arguing with the facts. Would the doubters please tell me what team the Tuna took over that did not improve dramatically in a short time..

Told you all new york fans are ignorant fools and idiots.

Dude you are an idiot. I do not recall Montana winning a national championship in college. And he is considered one of the greatest qbs in history. What about Brett Favre?? Did he win a championship in college??

Go whack your pee pee you moron because you dont know squat about football.

Just because his user name is Yankeesteroiduser, doesn't mean he is a New Yorker. I agree he is an idiot for his comments, but that has nothing to do with being a New Yorker. I live in New York and I agree with most people here about how Henne didn't have to win a big College game to prove himself in the NFL. What is all comes down to is the supporting cast. Eventually Henne will have that cast with the Dolphins. It might not be this year or next, but Parcells and Company are making an effort to put a winning team out on the field in Miami and Henne will eventually be successful.

please, Christopher Reeve had a chance to start with the talent level there.

May 3, 2008  07:27 PM ET

if henne is the best they have then he will start..its that simple

May 3, 2008  07:49 PM ET

WOW- thank you captain obvious, of course Henne wil start.

May 3, 2008  11:26 PM ET

According to Parcells "HENNEBUDDY" CAN PLAY FOR MY TEAM !!!

May 3, 2008  11:46 PM ET

Considering he played for the worst OC in college football, I wouldn't be surprised to see Henne be successful in the NFL.

May 4, 2008  07:35 AM ET

Putting aside I am a UM fan and watch the team closely, one thing to know about Henne is he's a tough SOB and a work horse. He was brought it and forced into the starting QB rotation as a Freshman. He knows how to deal with pressure and he's played injured. I don't know if he'll get the starting job but I do know he'll work his butt off to make Miami fans happy. I hope he succeeds.

I think Henne is a good solid QB and personally, I may have drafted him over Ryan (Boston College). And I think toughness and pressure would be key reason I would have chosen Henne.Warden please stop making good points, it making me uneasy (LOL).
