Carrying a football, Mets manager Willie Randolph walked into his office here Friday afternoon with Billy Wagner a step behind. When Wagner entered, the pitching coach Rick Peterson gently closed the door from the outside. It was safe to say that Randolph and Wagner were not going to play catch. Although Randolph said he would have preferred Wagner not to call out Oliver Perez through the news media, he seemed generally pleased that Wagner took it upon himself to say something to his teammate. He said he hoped that players would continue to police themselves.
