Zorn gets emotional on first day
Posted: Saturday May 03, 2008 08:07AM ET
Redskins Coach Jim Zorn has a reputation for being a good teacher and a nice guy, but he erupted in anger after cornerback Shawn Springs intercepted quarterback Jason Campbell's pass and attempted to lateral the ball to cornerback Fred Smoot on the first day of the team's minicamp. Zorn stopped play while shouting: "Don't do that! Don't do that!" Not wanting to risk a fumble, Zorn made it clear that the Redskins will not take chances like that.

hey at least he won't get fired like those painters who were painting too slow now does he have to call "Mr. Snyder" and ask permission to take a piss?

Report Offensive CommentSnyder finally found his personal "hand puppet" coach. So we'll get to see how good a coach snyder really is. Redskins + "zorn to lose" = 7 & 9

Report Offensive CommentThey can't take chances like that, ever. They will go 2-4 (beating the Iggles and Punies once a piece) in the division this year and Zorn will be fired. Please mark my word, thanks.

Report Offensive CommentWith that anemic offense??? It's not like they're high-powered like the Patriots or something. Field-goal City. He better let the defense make some plays or else he'll be a former Redskins coach.

Report Offensive CommentSounds like Jim needs to chill. As long as Smoot doesn't organize any stripper cruises he should consider himself ahead of the game!!

Report Offensive CommentHmmmm, seems like it's gonna be a loooooong year for the 'skins.
Zorn has no track record and will lose these guys with this nit-picky stuff.

Report Offensive CommentLooks like Zorn's leaving already. Has his thumb out, hitching a ride to another town.

Report Offensive CommentZorn's 1st play of the season will go for no gain. He will be fired on the spot & Snyder will grab a headset and take charge. The Skins will go 9-7 with Snyder at the helm and they will lose in the 1st round of the playoffs.
Mark my words.

Thank you. Also to all you who think Zorn will be one and done, know nothing about Redskins football. Spurrier got 2 years and could have come back for a 3rd year, but chose not to waste his time for a 3rd year. If Spurrier was allowed 2 years to coach, I think Zorn will be given at least 3 years. No one could have been worse than Spurrier, it all started with the draft and free agency, all Spurrier did was bring in his old Florida players who couldn't cut it in the NFL. Zorn is nothing like Spurrier and I expect great things from Zorn, also all Cowboys fans I'll take our coaching situation 100 out of 100 times over having that **** Phillips being a sitting duck, and the sad thing is everyone including himself, knows he's done after this season; since the Cowboys aren't winning anything come January.

Report Offensive CommentThe Skins first four games are against the Giants, Saints, Cardinals and Cowboys. I hope they can squeak past the Saints to start the season with a four game win streak.

Report Offensive CommentDrunk Eli, the Skins have by far the toughest first 5 game stretch in the league. They have to play 3 out of their first 5 games on the road, and all those road games come against NFC East opponents. Then we have to play the Saints, who will most likely be the best team in the NFC South, and a strong up and coming team in the Cardinals. I would be very happy if the Skins started off the season 3-2.

Cowboys4Lyfe | 05/03/08, 02:52 PM
Report Offensive CommentNormally this would not be news, but since the highest position Zorn has held until now is as a QB coach, then I suppose this is his first decision as a Head Coach, " Don't risk a fumble." I would have to agree..

There is no such thing as "America's Team", with the wide spread parity throughout the league, and how one team can go from 3-13 to 13-3, it's hard to find thousands of fans bandwagon jumping from team to team, like many fans did back in the days where only a handful of teams were dominant. Yes, the Cowboys may have one of the largest fan bases, but they have twice as many fans of the NFL that hate the Cowboys, so I would say the term "America's Team" needs to put to rest for good.

Report Offensive Commenthaha, I love how this meaningless story and a very smart lesson from Zorn has sparked all this critisicm about Zorn. stupid... This is probably the 1000th time this exact thing happened during a practice. Zorn will be fine. THis story reminds me of the MArlon McCree INT of Tom Brady in the 2007 playoffs, soon after, fumbling it right back away and it costing SD the win. That play couldve been the difference between a loss and an eventual Super Bowl victory for the Chargers. Of course he never laterla the ball, but he was irresponsible with the ball. You have to be smart when you recover a fumble or get an INT, if theres a big crowd around you, go down. IF youre in the open field, go for it, but certainly, dont lateral unless its the only chance you have of winning. Thats just asking for another turnover.
