The miracle Peter Moylan was hoping for took a serious -- and perhaps final -- blow Saturday. The side-arming Australian, who had one of the top rookie seasons in baseball last year, had to stop a bullpen session after only seven pitches. He'll have his elbow examined by team doctors Sunday morning but seemed ready to face the prospect that season-ending surgery is coming.

I thought Moylan was already out for the season until I read the morning fish wrap...... Smoltz, Hampton, Moylan, Soriano on the DL .... can it get any worse? Oh another nugget, following Hampton's pulled left, er, chest muscle during his rehab start this past week, he's now on the shelf for "at least" another 30 days....ha!

The only thing I am sick off is Mike Hampton. Season after season he gets hurt some how. We thought the Barry Zito deal with the Giants was a flop. Here we have Mike Hampton who hasn't pitched for us in years and gets millions of dollars. I think we should just cut ties with him.

There will always be Rugby or Cricket in his future.

Fuzzy's rule: never give 8-year contracts, especially to pitchers.
The SI article yesterday said that Mike is 53-48 since signing a $121 million contract before the 2001 season. So he's gotten about $2M per win. Injuries are not his fault, and that contract wasn't gotten at gunpoint. He keeps trying and he does what the club and trainers ask of him. So the system worked to his financial benefit, and the Rockies and Braves screwed themselves.

You could compare the Hampton situation in Atlanta to the Prior situation in Chicago. The best thing we ever did was getting rid of him. Has he done anything this year? For once I haven't heard anything about him.
