Wilson believes Sharks will win series

Ron Wilson is refusing to limit himself to conventional coach-speak. "I'm not afraid to talk about being down in a series 3-0 and finding a way to win because you guys are all, 'Ooooh, you're not supposed to do that,' " the Sharks coach said after San Jose's 3-2 overtime victory in Game 5. "Well, the last 60 teams acted that way and talked about taking them one at a time - and they didn't win." Coaches on those teams probably talked about taking things one period at a time, one shift at a time, too. Anything to break down the enormity of the challenge into bite-size chunks. But Wilson doesn't shy away from the big picture.

Imagine that...A coach saying that his team will win. What will they think of next.

i can see san jose winning game six and losing game seven at home because they play so bad in there own building! i hope dallas wins so i don't have to stay up so late to watch san jose/detroit.

He's getting tired of the press, you can tell. This guy has an enormous amount of pressure on him - 2 seasons in a row as the coach of a favoured team that lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs, and now on the brink of doing it again. Last year he almost got fired, this year, well, who knows? This team cannot be left intact if it loses again - you gotta think Marleau will finally get shipped out, and some lucky team will be better off for it - and maybe the coach gets fired too. Especially with a guy like Pat Burns sitting, waiting for the right phone call. I don't think there's a coach out there who wouldn't jump at the chance to see what they could do with this team, so I'd say it a safe bet Burnsey would take the call, haha. Wilson is in very big trouble right now - because his stars aren't getting the job done, as usual come this time of year. So he can't be bothered to jump through the hoops the mediw would like him to. Big deal. There's nothing wrong with a coach being fired up, especially when his job is on the line

hey go! are you getting nervous and anxious for the wings match up with the dreaded avalanche, ( blink ) oh wait, it's over! hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

May 4, 2008  12:25 PM ET

heeheeeheeehahaha. Too bad about their injuries, don't get me wrong, but what a cakewalk that was!

May 4, 2008  12:32 PM ET

I've heard that Burns isn't all that healthy Gocan.

May 4, 2008  12:33 PM ET

...and his Swedish is terrible...

May 4, 2008  12:34 PM ET

Oops...thought we were talking about the wings...got distracted there...ignore last comment.

May 4, 2008  12:36 PM ET

OK you might get by the Farts from dallas. But the Wings will blow you off the ice.

May 4, 2008  01:05 PM ET

Hahaha. WOW.....How refreshing...He's not afraid to admit that his team is in a big sh$ t whole. Thanks for pointing out the obvious idiot! Coach of the year!

May 4, 2008  01:13 PM ET

I'm probably wrong but I have stars winning the West. Their defense is SICK and finally fully healthy.

May 4, 2008  01:20 PM ET

He's tha assistant coach on Canada's World Championship Team right now, Baun-ded, and I saw an interview with him on TSN where he said he's looking to get back to "what he was born to do", but is waiting for a call. Apparently he's not even getting any treatments anymore, which was certainly good news to hear. The interview is on TSN.ca, if you want to watch it, its a pretty good one, truth be told

May 4, 2008  01:22 PM ET

Trust me. Wilson is one of those coaches who let's his ego get in the way of his team, and the headline above does not surprise me. The guy believes that he is entitled to a Stanley Cup. What he should be saying is that I am a punk **** coach who can't get my team to win in the playoff's." Now if he had said that, I would be impressed!

oops

May 5, 2008  12:12 PM ET

Well, well, Ronnie, looks like the Stars did not read your post.
Seriously, best series I watche din a long long time and yesterday, 4 OT. Every kid who wnats to be a a goalie should watch that over and over again.
GO STARS GO!

May 5, 2008  12:22 PM ET

bgm it just baffles me why Joe cant step it up. Hes a big strong guy that should be knocking heads and taking over these games.Lets get physical Joe for fix sakes!!! Pretend your outside a St Thomas night club or something.

May 5, 2008  01:23 PM ET

did anyone see Turco make the leg and stick save on those two shots in the first OT? HOLY SCHNIKES WOW THAT WAS SICK!

Turco is really the best passing goalie in the league. I wish Lundqvist could do 1/2 as good with stick handling.

May 5, 2008  01:44 PM ET

I think it was in 2004 when I saw Turco make an even more insane save.
Opposing forward shots from the slot about 10 ft from Turco. Turks moves to the top of the crease. In full extnesion, he uses his stick to lift the puck about 6.5 ft in the air behind him going for the back of the net and grabs it with the glove. Everyone thought it was a goal.
PS: NAbokov's save on Richards was not bad either.

May 5, 2008  02:31 PM ET

i cant wait for this series to start. yea Nabokov's save right before Turco's highlight was excellent.

Believing and achieving are not the same thing, are they, Mr. Wilson?
Was Joe Thornton even playing in last night's game?
It amazes me how one guy (Brendan Morrow) almost singlehandedly demolished the Sharks and none of the Sharks big guns had any bite to respond.
Morrow was in on every major hit, every turnover, every major scoring opportunity and every big goal, including the winner last night to put the "No Bite" Sharks out of their missery! Where was big Joe? We'd like to know!
