AC Milan doesn't need Ronaldinho

06:36 AM ET 05.05 | Silvio Berlusconi, the president of AC Milan who also dabbles as Italy's prime minister, says the team does not need Ronaldinho. If you believe that, Berlusconi would also like to sell you the Spanish Steps, a stretch of the Appian Way and the upper deck of the Colloseum. "I have always been doubtful over whether Ronaldinho is needed," Berlusconi said in Milan on Sunday after watching his team defeat rival Inter Milan, 2-1. "At this point I really don't think we need him." Translated into English, it means that what AC Milan really doesn't need is to meet Barcelona's asking price of $62 million for the Brazilian star. Once the Spanish club shows a willingness to consider a lesser offer, Berlusconi's need for Ronaldinho will rise accordingly. The team and the player have already reached agreement on a contract.

Here is my bold prediction: Rijkard will leave Barca and be replaced by Koeman. Ronaldinho will stay and regain form. Koeman, being a moron, will banish Bojan to the bench after arguments about playing time.

regain form. ronaldinho is never been in form. The team is been carrying is horse-face. this is why silvio berlusconi won so many championship and milan stayed on top. We recognize a looser and bad players when we see one. goodbye ronaldinho.

May 5, 2008  10:11 AM ET

eh, it really is true. We don't need any more midfielders. We've got Pirlo, Ambrosini and Gattuso (hopefully, I feel he'll stay after the weekend) and Flamini looks poised to get added as of this morning. Oh yeah, and that Kaka guy too. Ronnie would just clutter it all up.

now THATS bold dinho's dog hahaha. funny nonetheless. Since the beginning they dont need him. Berlusconi just wanted to add on to his brazilian colony... Smart from Milan to get a younger CM with Flamini. and FREE! If he doesnt go to Inter, Dinho will end up at ... Man City!! hahaha

Soccer is for wuss!

May 5, 2008  01:32 PM ET

what's soccer?

May 5, 2008  02:22 PM ET

This coming from someone named "I IS the man"???

Wow!

May 5, 2008  03:19 PM ET

I is the man,
Soccer, is what the rest of the world call footbal. It is played with a ball, and primarily with one's feet, hence the name. Unlike American football, these people are real athletes, not 300lb slabs of pork careening into each other at high rates of speed, who then need to go to the sidelines and take oxygen, so they go do this again in several plays. Therefore, there is no Futbol equivilant to Refrigerator Perry or Sam Adams. And if you want rough, and think this is a game for a "wuss" as you put it, you have never seen a Mexico vs. USA game, or a Celtic/rRangers match

how can somebody not need ronaldinho!?!?!?!?!?!?

May 5, 2008  03:56 PM ET

It sure as hell wouldn't hurt to have him if you have the money.

May 5, 2008  04:13 PM ET

Inter are destined to move Zlatan and Crespo this summer and possibly Adriano
Ronnie could be their incoming target, possible swap for Zlatan?

May 5, 2008  04:25 PM ET

Ronnie is not needed with kaka there

but i bet if the asking price was lower, berlusconi would be saying something much different

May 5, 2008  04:48 PM ET

why the heck would u do dinho for zlatan. we were all complaining when there was a rumor that they would trade messi for zlatan. i will say that lately, Messi has been a better player than Dinho. Barca doesnt need any more strikers. seriously. they have Bojan, Henry, Eto'o, Messi and Dinho. He wont be leaving for Inter thats for sure.

May 5, 2008  05:41 PM ET

Thing is, he's NOT an out-and-out striker, and neither is Messi. When fit, Ronnie is perfect for the left side of Barca's arrowhead attack, with Eto'o up top and Messi on the right. The problem is, Henry doesn't fit in anywhere. He likes to get the ball in the same place as Ronnie, but he doesn't create the way Ronnie does with the ball, so all he'd do if he played in Ronnie's spot is clutter the attack.

Having said that, Milan definitely shouldn't pay 31 million pounds for him on present form. He's not like Ronaldo, who always seems to bounce back. If he gets back to form, he'd be perfect as a supporting striker for Pato. Then Milan could go back to the 4-3-1-2 they played when Sheva was there, with Pato as the true striker, Ronnie supporting him, Kaka behind them, and a trio of Pirlo, Gattuso/Ambrosini and Seedorf/Flamini in midfield.

May 5, 2008  09:19 PM ET

Yeah, AC Milan doesnt need him. That's what they all say after they dont get the player designated. Im sure if they somehow manage to acquire him, they will have plenty of nice things to say. Maybe like, how much they DO need him.

May 5, 2008  10:34 PM ET

"Silvio Berlusconi, the president of AC Milan who also dabbles as Italy's prime minister."

I like that! That's a great line. In fact it's the best line I've read in T&R in a long time! (Is that good or bad, I wonder).

May 5, 2008  11:51 PM ET

Milan don't NEED him, but they do need a top-notch striker to pair with Pato. Sergio Aguero would be perfect, but I doubt he'll move this summer.

Dinho does not want to go to a team who is struggling to make Champions League qualification. It works out well for both sides, they dont need each other!
