Pirates-Rays trade in works

The Pirates are not necessarily through with reliever Evan Meek. Although there are plenty of unusual circumstances related to Rule 5 draft picks, there is a palpable feeling among management that he could remain in the system, provided a few elements play out. When a Rule 5 claim is designated for assignment, as Meek was yesterday morning, he must clear 48-hour waivers. If that happens in this case, the Pirates can offer Meek back to Tampa Bay for half the original claiming price of $50,000 or work out a trade to keep him. The latter scenario sounded most likely yesterday.

Must be a slow day in baseball if a Pirates and Rays trade for a marginal player at best is being discussed...

I see everyone is hanging on this story.

Ian Kennedy was sent down to the minors...discuss...

Thank God the Twins didn't get this piece of horse bleep for Santana. If Carlos Gomez can improve his OBP, he can become a very productive and valuable lead off hitter.

Ya gotta love that "rebuilding"!!!

This type of trade is more of what baseball needs. Deals for marginal players who can contribute instead of signing DH's for $10MM a year. Pirates will soon follow the (D)Rays in the ascent to the top of the division.

Is that Ed Norton?

No, I believe the gentleman to whom you are referring is none other than Norton from the old Honeymooners show with Jackie Gleason.
