Guillen goes off on media, fans

Posted: Monday May 05, 2008 06:15AM ET

Manager Ozzie Guillen is tired of the lineup suggestions and fickleness in the Chicago area with his White Sox on a five-game losing streak after an impressive start. One day after joking that his son Oney could play second base, Guillen went on a tirade after a reporter jokingly asked him if Class A outfielder John Shelby Jr. could get promoted after hitting three home runs in a game. "Right now everyone in Chicago is making lineups -- 'Call up this guy, call up that guy,' " Guillen said Sunday morning in a profanity-laced end to a pregame interview.

"That's what ticks me off about Chicago fans and Chicago media: They forget pretty quickly."

Well Ozzie, win a few and they will forget what a bad manager you are.

Should have deflected them with humor Ozzie, that's what Capone would've done.

yeah hes a terrible manager who won a world series then followed it up with a 90 win season the next year. good call wanted man. BillWrigley, Big Fat Lou will be gone well before Ozzie goes anywhere, because the Sox had no expectations this year so no one is going to pressure them if they tank, meanwhile Lou over there is having heart attacks left and right because he cant find any pitching. Ozzie's over here flipping out over a joke about a minor leaguer. And no, Ozzie will not get fired, despite how much all you haters out there want it. Because his players love him and love to play for him, and the management sure as hell loves him.

The guy has been an **** since day one and they won the series in spite of him and his stupid moves.
By the way... where did you get the idea that his player love him and love to play for him? I am a Sox fan and that is not what I have seen the last few years.
Kenny Williams keeps him around because they have a lot in common. This whole obnoxious "look at me" jag off attitude has played out with both of them.

I think Ozzie has done pritty well so far this season. The Sox weren't expected to really contend in the Central and they've led the divison the past few weeks. Like every team, they will go through abit of a rough patch, and hopefully this will be it for the Sox, so they can easily bounce back with plenty of games left this season!

The best you can say about Ozzie is that even he couldn't screw it up in '05 when he had six or seven players who all had a monster, career season all at the same time. Is he a completely clueless, bugger-eating moron? No...well, no. But please, stop pointing to '05 when argueing that he is actually a good manager.

im not allowed to point to a world series win when talking about a good manager? since when? and i dont mind mentioning that he won 90 games the next year in the toughest division in baseball, even if they didnt make the playoffs. You cant write off a world series victory on a manager's resume, so just stop.

Start naming stupid moves for me that he's made in-game. Start giving me lineup changes he's made that have been detrimental to the team. Start telling me why he's such a bad manager. Maybe you mean his players don't play very well, but that's not necessarily his fault, or only his fault.

Nor to his credit when they play well. Most in game managerial moves are so by the book a chimp with a pencil up it's butt could make them. Ok, you don't want me to call him bad, OK. How about an over-rated distraction who has allowed his team's performance to decline every year since '05?

i am a white sox fan thru and thru. i have stuck with them thru the good and mostly the bad. i used to think ozzie was a good manager, but after the end of 06 and all of last year, and now the beginning of this year, i do believe it is time for a change. he obviously is not doing anything to help the situation by insulting his players and displaying all of his obnoxious, profanity laden outbursts. granted, he can not hit for these guys, but how do other managers motivate the slumping players? certainly not by comparing guys to your children. i hate to say it, but he should be outta here!

Remember Jerry Manual? Terry Bevington? Ozzie is the MAN!!! The Sox are in a slump-every team goes through it BUT I agree with Oz, the cubs can do no wrong and the only reason they fill up Wrigley is because it's a landmark and tourist attraction. Switch em up and the Cubs would not sell out every game because it doesn't have all the bars and people are "afraid" of the South Side....GO SOX!

Until he is fitted for a straightjacket, I'm all in favor of Ozzie Guillen calling attention to the unhealthy relationship most Chicagoans have with their baseball team on the Northside.

His comments on this subject are 100% accurate.
