Benson on thin ice with Bears

Bears general manager Jerry Angelo was conveniently out of town and did not return phone calls. No doubt he needs to gather more information, as well. Sadly, it's a bit late for that. There's a big enough pile of evidence for the Bears to cut ties with Cedric Benson without another thought. Maybe that's the real positive of his water-logged weekend. Benson has one leg out the door and another on a banana peel anyway after the draft last weekend, when the Bears effectively replaced him by using a second-round pick on Matt Forte.

Is this what is meant by 'when life hands you lemons, make lemonade'?

May 5, 2008  07:46 AM ET

of course he is. he already had to have a solid camp to make the team, now he has to say all the right things just to get to the camp..

What about Adrian Petereson of the Bears? In the games I saw him play, he may not have been spectacular, but I feel he could grow to be the # 1 back by getting 20-25 carries a game. In all the conversations of Benson losing his job no one has mentioned this kid.

It's alright Cedric - you'll look just fine in a Bengals uniform.

May 5, 2008  09:03 AM ET

how's Mike Patterson doing captain?

May 5, 2008  09:06 AM ET

Benson better get outta town, let the young guys get some work. Peterson isnt a #1 back. Wolfe and Forte have potential.

May 5, 2008  09:07 AM ET

I guess this justifies the Bears drafting a RB last week.

May 5, 2008  09:07 AM ET

yeah lets make lemonade...and add vodka...

so stupid his story makes it seem like he's pulling out the race card like ever black man in america...

get rid of him NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!!!

May 5, 2008  09:11 AM ET

They should pull as Steve Bartman and drive him out of chicago never to return.

Cedric Benson is probably now the most hated athlete in Chicago among fans and teamates. There's no way he can come back and not be booed every time hes gets a carry.

Just release this bum...he's the classic draft BUST. Hey Cedric...did you have at least ONE good game as the Bears RB? Oh, and now he wants to play the victim and the race card.....F-you....no-names are better RBs than you....go to Canada and ride the bench...go to the Arena league and RIDE the bench.

This guy is long on talent and short on heart and brains. What a waste of god given speed and size.

Lo Mein please.

May 5, 2008  10:51 AM ET

Time to grow up Cedric. You don't have Mack Brown to coddle you anymore like he did when you got busted for pot at UT.

May 5, 2008  11:16 AM ET

Forte is a strong RB that played at a smaller school......If they shore up the OL, they might be able to bounce back

Can you say Canadian Football Legue??????

Or trade him for Chad Johnson BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.........

May 5, 2008  11:46 AM ET

Soriano might give Ced a battle for current most hated Chicago athlete.

Peterson had never gotten the credit he deserves but I don't see him as a #1 back. As for Wolfe, based on what I saw last year, he has no shot in the NFL. Way too little & not the speed/quickness to compensate. No chance. The Bears RB search goes on....(not to be confused w/ the Bears QB search. Which goes on....)

May 5, 2008  11:51 AM ET

The Bears cleared out the WR's during the off season, time to do the same with the RB's. Bunson is a classic bust - time cut his sorry butt. Peterson is a good reserve back, but that's it. Wolfe is not the answer - forget about arm tackles, he can be FINGER tackled....
