Sean Avery is thinking of the future now, but last Wednesday while lying in a bed in the Intensive Care Unit of St. Vincent's Hospital suffering internal bleeding from a lacerated spleen he'd sustained at the Garden hours earlier in Game 3 against the Penguins, the Rangers' winger had no such luxury. "I was writing my will that first night," Avery told The Post by phone yesterday. "I was in bad shape. I was nervous. I was trying not to think about it. I thought I was done." Avery, who is expected to make a full recovery, was released from St. Vincent's on Sunday. He'll report for the Rangers' break-up meetings today in the wake of the second-round five-game elimination by Pittsburgh that was sealed by Marian Hossa's offside-enabled OT goal Sunday afternoon.

Offside-enabled OT goal......just what are you trying to say?

May 6, 2008  07:23 AM ET

in this will who was he going to leave his child like taunts to?

May 6, 2008  07:53 AM ET

I love how the Post sticks that little "offside' jab in the story. Quality jounalism.

May 6, 2008  07:54 AM ET

Well, at least he has his first story for his stint at Vogue this summer...

May 6, 2008  08:48 AM ET

That Will had to be the shortest list in the History of Wills. Sean doesn't have any friends.

May 6, 2008  09:26 AM ET

Baun-ded,
That's the funniest thing I've read on here in a while...

May 6, 2008  09:29 AM ET

I must ask again, why is FanNation going anywhere near an article in the New York Post?

May 6, 2008  09:42 AM ET

Hey, Avery! If you're going to keep on doing what you do, you should have one ready at all times anyways!

May 6, 2008  09:48 AM ET

whaaaaaaaa!!!! i have a ruptured spleen...whaaaaa!

May 6, 2008  09:58 AM ET

It'll be interesting to see what this costs Avery. If he had a big playoffs his contract ofeers would have increased. This costs his leverage bigtime.

May 6, 2008  10:02 AM ET

Maybe the Devils will sign him, just to beat him up in the locker room

May 6, 2008  10:06 AM ET

this is a touching story, it brought forth emotions that I have not felt in a long time. it is the human side of the game that makes me follow these valiant young men....I think I just threw up in my mouth....let me check....yes, I did throw up in my mouth.

I hope avery steps off the curb (post-hospital discharge) into the path of an oncoming hi-speed steamroller, followed by a parade of elephants.

May 6, 2008  10:11 AM ET

Love the irrelevant piece at the end. LOL I asked my brother if he was offside and we thought he might have been. I'm sure the Refs--I mean Pens would have found a way to beat the Rangers in this series if there was a whistle or not.

May 6, 2008  10:14 AM ET

Evertonius, i agree with every word

May 6, 2008  10:15 AM ET

It's THE POST FOR GOODNESS SAKE
You're looking for unbiased journalism in a Murdoch paper? This is the newspaper that changed their racetrack handicapper and made him a social ciommentator

May 6, 2008  10:17 AM ET

the poor almighty rangers have finally succumbed to the referees and the capricious whims of bettman and the NHL. they stood tall and overcame every obstacle that bettman threw at them in the devils series (including a team that can't score) and subdued their much more powerful opponents from the darker side of the hudson. But alas, it was to no avail, the powers that be, had pre-destined the PENS to win the cup and once the gods have determined fate, your fate cannot be changed. they battled hard, and fought against the injustices of the league...wait a minute, I think I am going to vomit in my mouth again.

May 6, 2008  10:33 AM ET

Evertonious,
are you bulimic? All of this mouth barfing...
Alas, The Rangers couldn't over come the biggest obsatcle, and that was being outplayed by a hungry team..that, and an absolutely abysmal Power Play.
By the way if Pittsburgh is fortunate to survive (notice I didn't say win) the Philly series, I think whomever comes out of the West will be pretty tough to beat.

May 6, 2008  10:44 AM ET

"You're looking for unbiased journalism in a Murdoch paper?"

LOL. From the tyrant who started the War on Journalism.

May 6, 2008  10:45 AM ET

right, not that I read it, but I can't wait to see what that idiot does to the WSJ

May 6, 2008  10:55 AM ET

I'm not sold on the pens winning the cup...but I'm somewhat sold on them advancing. detroit/dallas look tough
