Randolph: Mets prefer playing on road

Willie Randolph doesn't think it was an accident that the Metslooked so relaxed while taking two of three from the Diamondbacks in Arizona over the weekend. Randolph admitted yesterday that the constant negativity from the fans at Shea Stadium so far this year - an obvious carryover from last September's epic collapse - has turned the road into a welcome refuge. "In our mind, we moved on," Randolph said of last season's historic meltdown. "Obviously, the fans are having a tough time moving past that."

So do the New York Giants.

May 6, 2008  07:29 AM ET

Wow... so you're saying your fans suck. Thanks Randolph... really... thanks.

May 6, 2008  07:49 AM ET

That's great that the team moved on. Not too difficult for them, considering they have all that cash to drown their sorrows in. None of them had to face 9 Phillies fans at work every day, hahaha.. What a dick, the fans have the right to react anyway we want towards our team, we're the ones that pay their salaries...

Willie, he's a clue.., stop getting you *sses handed to you by the likes of the Pirates and Nationals and maybe the fans will cheer you.

Let me call mayor Bloomberg and tell him to stop construction on the new stadium and we can saw a few hundred mil and then I'll call Bud Selig and have him schedule all 162 games on the road next season. Problem solved.

Willie rule #1 of being a manager is to never criticize the fans. Unless Willie knows he is on his way out and at this point doesn't care what he says. And when the guys in the middle of your line up are battling to stay above the mendoza line and your starters (sans Johan who came as advertised) can't go more than 5 innings without getting shelled and you sit there and act as is if all is fine at Shea then you deserve to get booed.

May 6, 2008  09:50 AM ET

I don't have any idea what Willie hoped to accomplish by voicing this......what possible good did he think would come from it?

May 6, 2008  10:02 AM ET

Ten Rings- seriously. Does he think the fans will cheer now that he called them out? Fans cheer when their team is winning, when their players are hitting or pitching well and when they play good baseball. The Mets haven't given the fans much to cheer and as a professional player you should expect to be booed when you don't perform to your abilities and the money you make.

May 6, 2008  10:05 AM ET

I have a question for Mets fans regarding Santana. I work with some Mets fans who like him BUT they think he doesn't go deep enough into games. What do you folks think about that?

May 6, 2008  10:18 AM ET

I agree with Willy. Met fans do suck.

Why is that? Because we're tired of his laid back Joe Torre approach??? Joe Torre was overrated and was handed the cornerstones to that franchise in Moe, Jeter and Pettitte. Willie doesnt have that yet subscribes to the same mentality. He's a bench coach at best.

Well said. Now, maybe Willie can also get rid of the 1970's pimpstache as well.
