Broncos receiver David Kircus won't lose his job over the incident that led to his May 21 arrest for second-degree assault, coach Mike Shanahan said Tuesday. Shanahan said Kircus passed a polygraph test Friday and the coach said he believes the receiver acted in self-defense in a fistfight with a man in the early morning hours of May 20.

It's good to have some honest players out there!

In defense of pro athletes, there are a lot of drunks in bars and night-clubs that want to slug it out with them. You cannot blame a pro athlete for beating down a punk who picks a fight with them....

It's just like when Tank Johnson's friend/bodyguard got murdered. Sure he didn't start the fight, but he put himself in a position where bad stuff might happen. Some people just don't know how to avoid trouble. If he doesn't get smart, this will happen again.

Uhh, Pacman has not YET been convicted of anything. Under the new policy wouldn't any contact with the police be grounds for the Commish to act? Fair is fair.

According to the radio report that I heard, Kircus admitted to poor judgement by being in the situation to begin with but was adamant that he was protecting himself. I think it's a little refreshing to hear an athlete admit at least that much.
Plus, the guy he punched probably hit the jackpot. Somebody will cover his medical expenses and I'm sure that there will be some monetary settlement. Maybe Kircus could punch me next.

AAARedskin...not contradicting you and I don't know the whole story of how the fight started but the guy that got his butt beat by Kircus got it smacked down in his own driveway, not a bar or a night club. Did it start at a club? I really don't know, I'm asking.

Not that I don't think these guys get hassled in public, but the polygraph result is silly; tell me the last time a pro athlete thought they were wrong about anything.

I bet it will be thrown out in court anyway

who?

May 30, 2007  10:02 PM ET

This guy is a nobody--thus this is a non-issue.....

All you Bronco haters, would you be saying the same thing if it was a player from your own favorite team. I think not. Granted, as a pro you have to make better choices. But just because you are a pro means you can't go to a party anymore. You do have to be careful who you are around. Personally, it makes more sense to throw your own party and invite those you trust only. You got the money if partying is your thing. throw some for your self and invite some stripper too if you have to have that kind of thing. But you must realize there are way too many people out there looking for the get rich lawsuit around every corner.

Sounds like the other dude instigated the fight, and threw the first punch, he deserved to get his face beat in. These players are going to be perfect people, and all of us would've done the same thing, under the same circumstance. A lie detector test might be the only thing that I can save these players jobs, so I think they should always have the option of taking one if they want. Hey Vick, why don't you take one? You're innocent right?

He has some extra competition for his job with Stokely in the fold but he's much less of an injury risk and I think he played well at times last year. Lets not forget most of the year, he played with a struggling Plummer before the new QB opened up the offense a little more.

As for his fight. It's a shame that he may get in more trouble becuase the guy was injured. NFL players beat people up more often than we ever hear about it. We'll see if he learns his lesson. If he pulls a Pacman and finds himself in this sort of situation often....cut him loose!
