Joe Hamilton, the popular quarterback who led Georgia Tech to an ACC football championship, was arrested on drug, alcohol and hit-and-run charges early Tuesday, about a week after getting hired by his former team. Hamilton, 31, is facing charges of marijuana possession, driving under the influence of alcohol, hit-and-run and open container, according to a Georgia Tech police report. The former Heisman Trophy runner-up was pulled over shortly after midnight by a Georgia Tech police officer because his black Ford Expedition matched the description of a car that had been involved in a hit-and-run collision nearby. An officer smelled alcohol on Hamilton's breath, and asked him if he had been in an accident. Hamilton admitted that he hit another motorist from behind, according to the report. Hamilton failed a series of field sobriety tests, including walking in a straight line and standing on one leg, the report states.

Wow. What a way to make an impression on your new employer. All that was missing was the Dean's wife in the back seat.

Do you think he got out of bed that day & thought what can I do today that will F*** up my life ?

May 7, 2008  09:02 AM ET

I am sure the person that got hit by his car did the Heisman pose just before Hamilton's car hit him...

What a sad-sack. With the BA pushing 0.2, he was absolutely out of it.

May 7, 2008  03:43 PM ET

Yea, I mean Leinhart has adjusted so well ??

May 7, 2008  04:05 PM ET

Leinart is boozing and hot-tubbing with ASU chicks... he's not shooting people, beating his wife, or crashing his motorcycle... let's be honest, whom here would not hop in that hot tub and beer bonged with those chicks...

Hey Joe what do you like to do for fun... Joe: Well I used to enjoy playing football and I was pretty good at it... but my hobbies include drinking 40's... smokin the reefer... and crashing my ride into other people... Oh and about my job I still have it right?

May 7, 2008  04:47 PM ET

MARIN, did you check my comment on the Wazzou APR post? Where did USC place? (I'm not being sarcastic, I really don't know)

May 7, 2008  04:48 PM ET

"Hey Joe, where you goin' with that beer in your hand..."

May 7, 2008  07:13 PM ET

eyesWIDEopen - dont know the APR score, but we were 3rd in the pac-10 behind standford and cal. our basketball team lost two schollys this past year when 3 players left early for the draft and didnt finish class (lod stewart, gabe pruitt and nick young)... surprisingly OJ Mayo and Davon Jefferson finished their classes.

These types of headlines are becoming all to common anymore. I could ask what was this guy thinking, then again it is evident he has a "numb from the neck up" syndrome!
