Little love lost between KG, Szczerbiak

There is little love lost between Kevin Garnett and former teammate Wally Szczerbiak, who plays for the Cavaliers. The two played together in Minnesota for 6 1/2 seasons, before the Timberwolves traded Szczerbiak to the Celtics in 2006. Garnett was asked if Cleveland was an ideal situation for his former teammate. He paused for more than 10 seconds before answering. "Sure," said Garnett. "It's the first I've ever heard a question about Wally and his situation. He's got a guy who is dominant on the ball and he can play second-tier. I guess, yeah, sure. I don't really know how to answer that."

Wally Sczcerbiak is sketch

The media guys are trying to stir up some controversy. Must be a slow news day. Leave Garnett alone and let both teams play ball. Its not Lebron against the BIG THREE or Garnett against Sczerbiak; its Celtics against the Cavaliers.

Another case of the media trying to make something out of nothing. KG said, "I don't know how to answer that." Play Ball!

who is wally?
he is at best a #3-type option on your team. I can't believe I wasted 45 seconds on this post

....are you sure this isn't the NY post writing the story?

I Like Turtles - what are you talking about? Your first link did have the .html, and the article did mention KG punching Wally (second-to-last paragraph)

May 7, 2008  02:52 PM ET

Much as I don't want the Celtics to win, it's refreshing to hear KG basically refuse to bite on this nonsense. Pretty mild comments and non-newsworthy, but then this is T & R.

I meant if FN was going to pull an old story about KG and Wally not liking each other, the story might as well include why.

May 7, 2008  03:30 PM ET

Hmmm. He needs someone to dominate the ball so he can play second tier. Maybe Garnett was referring to himself.

while kg dominates the glass and the entire defensive end?

re: kg punching rick rickert and wally szcerbiak. as a minnesotan, i've often wanted to punch both those guys. kg might have simply had enough of two selfish players who are nowhere near as good as they think they are.

too bad so sad, lets move on.

May 7, 2008  06:20 PM ET

Get a life and then get a real story. Must be a slow day.

May 7, 2008  07:13 PM ET

KG probably paused for 10 seconds because he was trying to remember who Wally Szczerbiak was...

May 7, 2008  07:44 PM ET

So that makes Wally the worse of two losers- so what?

May 7, 2008  09:34 PM ET

Takeitstrong's insight is brilliant!
Garnett's comment about the Cavs having a "dominant guy on the ball" (Lebron) that allows Wally to play second-tier is also a reference to the Wolves when they played together. Back then, Garnett was the "dominant guy on the ball", and Wally was the second-tier as usual.
However, looking at the current matchup between the Celts and Cavs, both players are doing well. Garnett is leading the way for the Celts, even when the others on the team are in a slump, and Wally has been hitting some key outside shots for the Cavs.
If Wally were to play on the same team as Garnett, it would be an even better team. Can you imagine if the Celts had another outside sharpshooter like Wally? They would be even better than they are now.

This is not newsworthy at all!., just wasting people's time with this scrape-the-bottom-of-the-barrel blurb.

You're not gonna see KG and Wally kiss before tipoff.

MixinUpMedicine - that's very sad.
It would be nice to see KG and Wally kiss and make up.
They make such a cute couple!
Don't forget - KG and Wally are almost teammates again. Wally was dealt to the Celtics in 2006, and if they had not traded him to Cleveland, they would be together even now.
