Wild coach weighing future

Posted: Thursday May 08, 2008 07:25AM ET

Jacques Lemaire still loves coaching. But he has been wrestling with a simple question since about halfway through the season: Is he the right coach for the Minnesota Wild at this point in their history? Lemaire was extremely frustrated at times during the 2007-08 season. He would see certain players who could perform better, yet he couldn't seem to bring out their best. Now Lemaire is weighing whether to return.

It's Hot!

Rank: 4

It's Not!

Walk away and bring the Trap with you, then maybe the Wild will have some fans outside of Minnesota

If he wants to coach and it's not for the Wild...Where would he go with his boring brand of hockey?
No song Boston is the only team I see that would qualify under that model...and they seem content enough with No-Nominated Therien as head coach.

On another note...I hope PopKing gets a coffee before he gets started in here today.

Julien is the coach in Boston, Therrien coached Pittsburgh...

I love Jacques Lemaire, but I think it's time for him to move on. The Wild need to go in another direction.

Report Offensive Comment

Move on, we need a offensive minded coach here in Minnesota, I like Jacque but its time for him to go.

Please, Please go. !!!!!!

Hey Jacques, as I said before: Take your brainchild (your beloved trap) and your favorite player (Boogard) and ride off into the sunset. Nobody will miss you!

Report Offensive Comment

Boogard would be missed in Minny if he left. Right after Minny lost to the Avs I wished Lemaire well because I knew he would not be back . That is not a knock on his coaching, he won cups with that trap style so he knows what he is doing but Minny is full of offence minded players and if they can keep most of them they have a reel chance next year at the cup, as long as the new coach is aggressive on offence. GO WILD!!

Get out Jaques "the Trapping" Frenchman! The Wild are among the most boring teams to watch in the NHL. They play for the 1-0 win every night.

Lemaire is a Lamoriello product that has ruined entertaining hockey for over 10 years now.

Do you guys know who's reported to be on the Leafs' radar? Yup...Lemaire. I wonder if the Toronto fans(baun-ded) will still knock the trap when and if Toronto succeeds with it? Oh i forgot....Toronto wants an "exciting brand " of hockey in front of their fans........i wonder how that exciting brand of hockey is doing them? Oh yeah..i forgot...they missed the play-offs the last 3 years playing that "exciting brand of hockey".

If it works it works... The Trap may be boring to watch but a 1-0 win is still a win.

Report Offensive Comment

He will stay he is just upset

Report Offensive Comment

That's pretty funny Bostongm...since they don't have a GM and that is usually who decideds on the Coach...I'd say your radar is a little of the blip.

The trap worked well under the old system. It is much harder to implement in the new NHL. The neutral zone is much bigger without the red line, so is the defensive zone. A good transition team can beat it with speed and good, long break out passes out of the zone. The trap worked well in NJ. It would've worked very well in the old (small) Boston Garden. It didn't in Minni and it won't it most places today.

The coffee has just kicked in. Wow! Look at the time!. Good night all!

The trap is not so bad, it gives a team-oriented organization an opportunity to succeed and helps create better parity in the league. Personally, I don't need to see 10 goals per game to be entertained... but I see some of you have to have constant, instant gratification or your ADHD kicks in.

Offense is horribly overrated. Give me a group of unselfish, team players over overpriced, selfish prima donnas any day. This guy is a great coach and will be badly missed by MN and by the league, but not by non-fans who care about nothing but scoring.
