Cowboys QB fails Open qualifier

Tony Romo knew he was in for a long day in attempting to make it to the sectional stage of the U.S. Open qualifying when a one-foot bogey putt lipped out on the first hole. The Cowboys quarterback shot a 5-over 75 at the Golf Club of Dallas on Wednesday, four shots short of making a playoff that could have earned him one of the eight spots available for sectional qualifying. "I hadn't played golf in a week or so, and if you're trying to get your game in shape that's not enough," Romo said. "It comes and it goes." Romo shot a 42 on the front nine but rebounded on the back nine with a 33 that included three birdies and a bogey. While his chance to make the U.S. Open field fell short, Romo will get to play the South Course at Torrey Pines the week before the Open is played there.

I'm surprised the don't just let him play because he's a stupid celebrity. The yankees let billie crystal play for a day or whatever. The Padres let that idiot garth brooks participate in their practice years ago. Romo... practic holding the football for field goals. cowboys suck!

Report Offensive CommentDid he blame his missed 1-footer on a bad snap and a slick ball?

Report Offensive CommentJessica Simpson must have been there.

Report Offensive CommentMust be practicing for when he gives up football and wants to pursue something non-athletic.
Not that I have anything against golf. It's one of the few times a white guy can dress up like Huggy Bear and won't look weird.

Report Offensive CommentRomeo is a good athlete, we always have people posting there personal beliefs about a person or the team he plays for or just basically getting there clown on. He is no different from MJ, when he played for the Bulls, less haters then, but no different. Respect the man and his talents, if you don't like the team he plays for.

Report Offensive Commentmaybe he should be spending this time right now preparing for the football season? So maybe he doesn't choke again like he did against the Giants?

Report Offensive CommentAs a golfer and also someone who has tried to qualify for the US Open i know just how hard it is.The fact that he hadnt played in a week shows he wasnt all that serious, but nice try Tony, now get back to football so we can win the Superbowl in February(or is it back to January next year?)

Report Offensive CommentActually, I understand Romo said he would have done much better against the Giants if he hadn't been making out with Jessica Simpson so much, especially during halftime.
