Stewart won't rule out Indy return

Posted: Thursday May 08, 2008 07:40AM ET

If Tony Stewart ever runs another Indianapolis 500, which the NASCAR star said Wednesday remains a very big if, he vows to do it right. That means showing up in March for the start of the IndyCar Series season, not in May for the start of Indy 500 practice. Stewart said he is weighing "a laundry list of factors" as he contemplates whether to stay at Joe Gibbs Racing or consider one of many offers to go elsewhere. But for the time being, at least, he still answers to team president J.D. Gibbs, who didn't want a repeat of four years ago when Stewart showed up at Indy on bump day and flirted with the idea of getting into an A.J. Foyt Enterprises car.

Um, isn't Tony going to need to "drop a few pounds" before he can fit into an Indy Car? So, yeah, he'll need to make an extended commitment to prepare for it if he tries again.

Drinking? Not on Joe's watch.
Dirty joke? Not on Joe's watch.
Derogatory comment about Kyle's looks? OK, I can see that one.

Conversation topic; Because I'm the boss, that's why.
If Tony ever wants to drive at Indy, he will have to find a new team and owner.
Gibbs is not a guy that hems and haws, it's his way or the highway.

Tony's problem with open wheel is he can't bash into people when he gets pissy

Report Offensive Comment

LOL @ jackmanrob....all of them

LF....who says he can't do that at Indy??? heh heh heh

Good one Jackman.
Wish they would post some news
Oh well gotta go kill a mob boss in GTA IV, this mission will take a while

Report Offensive Comment

No way he fits in a car.

If he goes back to Open Wheel, he's an idiot. Open Wheel isn't as popular, isn't as successful, and isn't as lucrative as NASCAR. Besides, he'd have to call Jenny Craig first... he could do commercials w/ Queen Latifa and Valarie Bertunelli

if he could get into an open wheeler the odds of it flipping over would be pretty slim..................if he did flip one i guess the jaws of life could peel him out of the car.......................trying to picture them fitting him into an open wheeler.....its not a pretty sight

Report Offensive Comment

his crew could give him seat belt extenders like the fat people get on airlines

Report Offensive Comment

The fat jokes are killing me today. Yo Hammered.....kick some video arse. So proud of you lol

Report Offensive Comment

Indy cars only have one seat, Tony will never fit.

I have the bench seat from a '85 El Camino for sale if he's interested!

Report Offensive Comment

Is the seat blue with a stain on it?

Report Offensive Comment

take your teammate Kyle Busch with you and leave him.. he should get along fine with Danica and hornish

Tony Stewart = 5' 9" 170 (uhem, that's per yahoo)
Paul Tracy = 5' 10" 190 (paultracy.com)

I've shared beer with both of them, and Tracy is bigger; dude is huge. Jared's $5 promotion isn't helping Tony any, but if PT can fit into a Dalara, Skippy can, too.

IRL is a much easier schedule, and there are still millions to be made there. Per race is more lucrative, there just aren't as many races. His heart is with Indy; do NOT be surprised to see him go back to IRL and cherry pick NASCAR races. Maybe not just yet, though...
