For his 45th birthday in 11 days, David Wells wants something pinstriped. The free-agent left-hander told The Post yesterday he has been working out near his home in San Diego and believes he could bolster a Yankees' rotation suddenly besieged by question marks. Hank Steinbrenner admitted yesterday that Wells has crossed his mind as a possibility for the Yankees' rotation.

Time to hang 'em up David!

I thought the Yankees already had the market cornered on overpriced, overrated, overpaid players.

Hooray!

Truth is, being fat never hurt his control. Nor did being old, except when his back gets iffy.

On a cheap contract, why not? He doesn't have to be great, just better than what we've got. I wouldn't mind Hank throwing a couple of million bucks at him to see what happens.

Fat jokes aside, I think boomer could add character to any team looking for some pitching. I am sure his curve still works. Would Theo think about throwing some short money at him for a middle reliever.

Boomer's got balls...thats for certain. Any strikes left?..thats another question. Its the Yanks tho.....why the hell not??

May 9, 2008  09:22 AM ET

Certainly this is a positive development for the Red Sox. Anyone knows Hank, that when you have an opportunity to sign a 45 year old out of shape pitcher, who has been hanging around at home for the past year, and has limited success in the recent couple of years, you should go get that done.
So Godspeed to Boomer and the ****.

Look they filtered Yankees. That's a good one.

It won't happen, but i would not be against him in the Pen for at leaste a while.

May 9, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Yeah, just pay him by inning pitched. If they think Joba showboats, wait till they see Boomer.

You've just summarized exactly what is wrong with baseball. When the fans see a couple of million dollars being considered cheap for a 45 year old that no one else wants, there's no hope that a decent player will ever come play for someone else's hometown for the money they can afford.

Um. No. After that garbage you pulled in Game 5 of the '03 WS, you can't be counted on.
