Please, Chris Osgood looked like he'd been slashed 10 times with an axe, and as far as I know, goalies wear protection. Sure, it was uncalled for and not that smart of Ribeiro, and he should get a suspension, but one game should be enough. It's playoff, and the cuddling with goalies has to stop. I'm not saying that goalies are free-for-all out there, but yeah, Osgood overplayed so much he could make a living for himself in Hollywood when he decides to put the stick on the shelf.

Ribeiro won't be the only Star out soon.

Having said that, it looked like a frustration mistake thinking Osgoode interfered with him first in the dying seconds. The Stars should have shown some of this fire a lot earlier. Pretty boring game.

Fine both players 10k and play on. Both of them were at fault. I'm a big Wings fan, have been all my life. I also played some when I was younger. (not at this level by any means). The Dude needs to actually check what's REALLY going on and then comment. Don't just shoot off your mouth because you're a Stars fan. The league needs to take a close look at this...Ribiero should NOT be suspended. This was totaly out of character for him. He's not that kind of player. To call Ozzie a thug is laughable. As far as hacks and punches at opposing players he's down about 10-1 to Marty in that game alone. As for power plays...Det 6 Dal 5 so you can't blame the refs for the loss. Saying that the Stars got to this point because of the refs is also laughable. They had at least 2 goals called off on them that should have counted in previous rounds. Morrow and Robidas have been outstanding, as well as Turco. Cmon NHL stand up..fine both..but do not suspend Ribiero.

EVERYONE CALLING FOR SUSPENSIONS AND FINES DISPRESE. YOU WERE NOT WATCHING THE GAME WERE YOU? THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT.

Osgood did get in a shot earlier and was probably talking some trash. And Ribiero, although wrong, barely touched him in his CHEST with his stick. That did not hurt the goalie. Do you know how strong goalie chest protectors are? They are meant to withstand 100+mph slapshots.

Osgood went down like he took a bat to the dome. Completely sold it. There should be no suspensions everyone please stop being ridiculous. This is playoff hockey go back to watching basketball.

Did Malkin get suspended for slew footing Mara twice? No. And that play was 100X as dirty and not even in the heat of the moment.

So far all of these comments seem to place this as a heat of the moment kind of thing. That works in most cases in the NHL with incidents like this, only one small problem though...the game was over. I don't think he should be gone for the whole series, but this certainly warrants a one game suspension. I don't care who sold what, this was an intent to injure play and should be treated as such. Goalies are not free game and such things certainly should not be tolerated when the outcome of the game is not at stake.

Oh, I totally agree that if you use your stick as a weapon there should be a suspension. So, let's see Osgood sit for a game or two for using the butt end of his stick up into Ribiero's face as he skated by...again, as the game was ending. Cheap shots by both players. It either evens out for no suspensions or they each miss a game. I'm just curious as to where the second gunman on the grassy knoll was, since Osgood dropped down and flopped on the ice like he'd been shot in the throat.

The slash/chop was not anywhere near as bad as Osgood tried to sell it was. At all. However, Ribeiro needs to be reprimanded in some way, or the NHL - and Colin Campbell in particular - runs the risk of losing whatever respect the players have for the league's disciplinary practices. I don't think Osgood will even get a bruise from that shot, but the fact is, Ribeiro intentionally brought his stick up, over the cross bar (it would be a highsticking no goal if he was deflecting a puck) and slashed Osgood with it in the chest. Like NOTB said, if you use your stick as a weapon, you need to be punished, no ifs and or buts. Whehter it be by fine - first time offender, after all - or a single game suspension, the NHL has to send a message here.

Made me chuckle to see ribeiro get a does of his own medicine with an embellishment being used against in him instead of in his favour

You are aware that Ribiero waved his stick with one hand and it made contact with Osgood's chest, right? And that Osgood himself earlier completely cheapshotted Ribiero up high with his stick, correct? If anyone was attempting to 'injure' it was Osgood. The league should just let it go.

It was 2 hands, Other One - when both hands are on a stick, the count is TWO, not one.

Osgood's butt end CAN be excused by his explanation that Ribeiro skated close to the crease and he was just following the play, resulting in the accidental butt end - its as believable as Pronger's "lack of intent" when he stomped on Kesler a couple months ago, which certainly didn't result in enough punishment getting handed down. But if the league believed Pronger on that, then they can believe Osgood here.

Osgood didn't make a chopping motion. He didn't lift his stick over his shoulders. And he didn't do it after the play - and the game - were over. Thats a major difference.
