Majerle interested in Suns job

Dan Majerle, the Suns Ring of Honor member, has already said he'd be interested in a position on the coaching staff, though more likely as an assistant. He spent his career playing for the likes of Cotton Fitzsimmons, Paul Westphal and Pat Riley and remains one of the most popular sports figures in the Valley.

It's Not!

Hey after I saw him repeatedly make half court shots in a suit with his back to the basket, why not?

Thunder Dan?? The Suns could do a lot worse.

Eh...I don't know. Doesn't he have like zero coaching experience?

Hi my Name is Dan, I was a NBA player. I also own a restaurant and do commentary for basket ball games.
oh yeah, people like me.
Can I have a job coaching in the NBA?

seriously now.....

THUNDER DAN CAN!!!

I think that this would be a smart move, if for no other reason that PR. He was a positive role model when he was on the court and was almost like a second coach out there anyway. He's stll very much loved and respected in the Phoenix Valley. And if he can't coach worth a lick, it'll still put people in the seats.

He also said he'd be open to an assistants position.

I think the Suns need a lot more than Thunder Dan.

Dan Majerle would make a good assistant coach, but he's not ready for the head coaching position of a top-flight team - even though he is a legend with the Suns franchise.
It's too bad that they let D'Antoni go. It was a mistake to do so. There aren't that many experienced coaches left in the Coaching Carousel / Musical Chairs. Neither Van Gundy is available, and neither is Doug Collins. Rick Adelman would fit in well since he likes the Western-Conference-style running game, but he's establishing himself in Houston.
If I were Kerr, I would try to re-start talks with Rick Pitino to switch out of college coaching and re-try the NBA. If Rudy Tomjonovich (spelling?), Musselman, or other experienced coach wants to re-emerge, that would also be good.
If Kerr cannot manage one of those, then the best thing would be to sit back and wait to grab the next experienced coach that becomes available and dismissed from a current team as a playoff fallout scapegoat.

Where do they come up with these stories?
How many years will it take for the Knicks to fire D'Antoni? I say 2.

Jpd - How can you be sure that the Knicks will fire him? Maybe he will simply leave out of frustration.

Interesing posts but here is a new thought on this thing BTW I am a Laker fan. Why not get Thunder Dan. Why would you want to get another NBA retread although with coaching experience but has not done anything in Playoffs. The only viable candidate that won anything was Brown and he is with Bobcats now. Why not give Dan a chance, Maybe he will be a breath of fresh air, Cannot hurt. Pplus penny pinching Sarver will not have to pay that much for inexperienced coach. Listen the players played enough to know the plays and what they need to do on the court. All the new coach has to do is motivate his players and call timely timeouts. That is why Phil Jackson is a great coach. He does not coach but manages his players and motivates them, plus knows when to push the right bottons of that particular player.
With Suns players and skills I think there is one name that noone mentioned so far and I just cannot understand why not only for the Suns but for any NBA team - Does Rick Barry sound familiar. His play and scorring ability is legendary. Hall of Fame Player that knows the game and played it the right way. Plus can you immagine Shaq shooting free throws underhanded? Priceless!!!!!

If Dan Majerle wants to enter coaching, then he should come to the Bay Area, California and become an assistant under Don Nelson. That is a sure fast track to becoming a head coach, since Nellie won't be around more than another year or two.
Dan Majerle looks like a prototypical Californian - the tall, blond, volleyball-player, surfer look. He would probably get along well with Chris Mullen, the Warriors GM, since they both have a lot in common in terms of their experiences in the NBA. Both were Western-Conference small forwards who liked to run and shoot the outside shot.
Heck, if he and Mullen spend enough time together, maybe they would start looking like twins. In that case, they could take turns playing coach and GM. Majerle could coach for a few months and then trade places with Mullen for a change. Then they could switch back. It would be a brilliant new concept in NBA management - the dual coach-GM hybrid.

Since they got to pat Shaq all those bucks may as well make him coach and at least get ten cents on your dollar !!!

the suns need to overhaul the team a new coach would be useless cause the players are so used to the lite practices and not playing D, plus they're all vets..any coach would be put in the unenviable task of trying to teach old dogs new tricks..

Looks as if the Lakers are having a little trouble with the Jazz.
