Raiders work out Nebraska QB

The Raiders worked out San Ramon Valley High School graduate Sam Keller on Friday. He wasn't selected out of Nebraska in the NFL draft last month. He worked out for the Buccaneers last week but was not offered a contract. The Raiders already have five quarterbacks on their roster -- JaMarcus Russell, Andrew Walter, Jeff Otis, Erik Meyer and Brian White.

Is there any need for a 6th string quarterback anywhere in the NFL? Although this is the Raiders they're talking about.

Apparantly in Tampa.

Report Offensive CommentThere are many teams that need good QB's but have several backups. Problem is he is a backup.

Report Offensive CommentSam Keller? Is this an **** joke? He wasn't even a top 5 QB in the Big 12 last year. What the hell makes him think he has any business in the National Football League? I sure hope he got a good degree from Nebraska.

Report Offensive CommentCensored part was the letter f, then a dash, then the letters i-n-g. Since when is f dash ing a cuss word?

Report Offensive CommentHe won't make a team...but the good news is, he will have time to get some more tattoos on his arms for two complete sleeves.

Report Offensive CommentHe'll sign for less than 35 million too.

Report Offensive CommentHe probably won't make the team but it makes sense to work him out. He played in the West Coast offense under Callahan and could be a decent third string QB.

Only for the Buc's. They apparently need several QB's.

Report Offensive CommentIf the Bucs didn't sign him there must be a problem.

Report Offensive Commentthis is f dash ing unimportant. I consider myself a pretty aware football fan, and I can't even tell you who their 3, 4, or 5 are. They're going to give it to JaMarcus this year at QB and I would be surprised if they win 5 games.

Report Offensive CommentWhy do they have 6 quarterbacks, and the Bears don't have any?

Report Offensive CommentHe may look into Arena football.. The odds of him playing in the NFL...not likely. He is a decent athlete but NFL QB??? Uh no...............

Report Offensive CommentDo you think this makes Jamarcus Russel more confident or less confidant? The raiders already have 4 people to take his place if he sucks and they are looking at a 5th? Almost sounds like they either expect him to be a bust, expect him to fail his physical, or expect him to get hurt early on.

Why they haven't signed Daunte Culpepper or even Arron Brooks is beyond me. For all we know, they might not beat out Grossman but status-quo is not working for the Bears.

Report Offensive CommentThe Arena League or the CFL seems to be his best bets.
J. HOVA: BROOKLYN'S OWN | 05/12/08, 12:59 PM
Report Offensive CommentIf he is going to play QB; it will be arena. CFL is built for big arm QB's. Flutie had the big arm but lacked size. He arm is suspect and he has poor control. In the arena leagues short field; he could do well.

Report Offensive CommentRemember; Vince left the Rams in the early 80's (showing my age) for the money? He had just lost the Superbowl against the Steelers. He lost his first game 71-3 in the CFL; he had 5 interceptions. They televised it on CBS to show his great impact on the CFL; his impact was that he was a joke in that league. He never recovered and left the CFL and I am not sure what happended to him; few know.
The Arena league gives QB's who have weak arms hope. You can even have average speed. All you need is blocking and solid receivers; very short fields.
I even saw and old Tenn. QB who washed up in the NFL play Arena; he did pretty well.
