Doctor nixes Franchitti test

Posted: Monday May 12, 2008 06:06AM ET

Dario Franchitti continues to heal from the broken left ankle he sustained during a Nationwide Series race at Talladega last month, with no firm timetable for his return. Franchitti has been monitoring the amount of pressure he puts on his ankle. After a couple hours of walking around, Franchitti elevates his leg and uses a boot that circulates cold water through it to alleviate the swelling. He had considered testing at Lowe's Motor Speedway, but the doctor nixed that idea.

It's Not!

My mom broke her ankle and spent 6 weeks in a cast and had about 4 weeks of physical rehab. He's going to be out for a while.

He'll be back for the 600, at least to qualify and start the race (maybe just start the race). I'm sure the next few races there will be a relief driver running (All Star weekend, 600 weekend) at some point. I think there also will be a relief driver standing by for the next couple races after that.

the difference between a normal person and Dario is money. He has the time (doesn't need to work a real job) AND MONEY (to do alternative therapies to help heal the injury) that the majority of people don't have.

Are you using the whole hand, Doc?

I'm a physical therapist and athletic trainer. I've seen elite athletes return from broken bones in 4 weeks, where the normal person requires 8-12 weeks. If you have the freedom to focus exclusively on rest and rehab, recovery time is insanely fast.
