Manny: I'm best Boston leftfielder ever

Forget 500 home runs, Manny Ramirez has his eyes on another prize - a Gold Glove. But, according to Ramirez, there's one problem. "How am I going to win a Gold Glove if they take me out in the eighth (inning)," said the Sox left fielder, repeating a line he has passed through the clubhouse since he was removed for defensive replacement Jacoby Ellsbury on Friday night against the Twins. That was a joke. This, however, wasn't: "I think I'm the best ever to play left field in Boston," the slugger said.

Yaz was pretty good. I would like to see a CAT scan of this guys brain in action though. I just want to see the colors. It would make a great poster.

It's just Manny being Yaz.

Manny couldn't carry Yaz's jock strap. <lorp>

Giving Manny a Gold Glove award would be like making George Dubya the Nations Poet Laureate.

Manny what you smoking bro? How can i get some?

Manny, I love ya, but you don't even swing Mike Greenwell's glove in left, never mind Yaz or Duffy Lewis.....

As for the stick, you ain't Teddy Ballgame quite yet.

Let's just say you are the best righty bat we ever had out there and then we can all call it a day..

Maybe Manny misunderstood the question. He's arguably the most exciting left field in Boston's history since you never really know what's going to go on out there, or whether he needs to stop inside the Monster during a pitching change to relieve himself. :)

That's funny, Manny is a great player but he's no Ted WIlliams, who is probably the best left fielder of all time.

May 12, 2008  08:14 AM ET

Manny, you were much better off when you weren't talking to the press....

May 12, 2008  08:17 AM ET

He is a solid player and probally the best to play that was almost traded every year. He was lazy for years and certainly lacks any humility. Clearly Williams was the best at that position.

I agree Yaz was the better all around player and Manny is the better hitter (than Yaz). However, Manny has three things Yaz never had (yeah I know, Manny ain't winning a triple crown ever either - too bad though):

Manny - 2004 World Series
2004 - WS MVP
2007 World Series

Now - Yaz has alot of awards too. I am not taking away from Yaz, loved that guy! Give Manny some credit - at least he said Left fielder vs. outfielder.....that might get him run out of Boston....

I liked it when Manny had licorice weaved into his hair.

You will have to forgive Manny on this one, he took a seminar from the David Ortiz school of self-absorbed promotion.
