Coach Parcells shows no mercy

When he was coaching the Jets a decade ago, Bill Parcells saw one of his players throwing up during a workout session and yelled, ``Throw up on your own time.'' As the Patriots coach before that, Parcells spotted one of his players passed out from an energy-sapping training camp test. ''When he wakes up,'' Parcells yelled at trainers, ``tell him I just cut him.'' As the Cowboys coach, Parcells put an offensive lineman on the physically-unable-to-perform list because he flunked the portion of the infamous Parcells conditioning test that required him to run three separate 300-yard shuttles inside a specified time. The player was Pro Bowl guard Larry Allen -- the Cowboys' highest-paid player at the time. Are you getting the idea that conditioning is important to Bill Parcells?"

Are you getting the idea that his fat arse couldn't take a dozen pushups before he'd pass out? I know, I know, he doesn't have to but, in the Army, we were always told to lead by example.

You took the words right out of my mouth, Hooah.
Parcells is a big believer in "do as I say, not as I do".

Exactly, and exactly!

Personally, I'm getting the idea that pizza is important to Bill Parcells.

3 300yd shuttles........that sucks!

May 12, 2008  07:15 AM ET

Does anyone really care?

May 12, 2008  07:17 AM ET

Coach ?

May 12, 2008  07:18 AM ET

I really have problems with that kind of stories, especially when you know that over the past decade, there were some tragic deaths during summer camps...

May 12, 2008  07:33 AM ET

Aymeric, agreed.

That "only wimps vomit and pass out" attitude has killed a few guys, and will kill a bunch more. And it'll probably be even worse at the college level.

May 12, 2008  07:48 AM ET

College level, heck, this goes on at high schools, too.

May 12, 2008  07:51 AM ET

With this toughness inspiring the Fins......they are sure to win 2-3 games this year.

May 12, 2008  08:06 AM ET

Well...you all know how the old saying goes...:

"If your not a physician or physical trainer....and you need to build a team of athletes...just over exert them to the point of passing out or vomiting...same great results."

Nobody ever said the Tuna was a warm and fuzzy guy, just a guy that knows how to turn losers into winners....

He's got an omelet to put together in Miami. Count on him busting some eggs while he cooks.

Get some for me too, Hooah, with sausage patties. Thanks.

When a player does not wake up.. lets see how much he talks then. He can coach but his lack of common sense in conditioning is sad.

May 12, 2008  08:35 AM ET

Someday, someone is going to do a Full Metal Jacket on his ass.

May 12, 2008  08:36 AM ET

Unbelievable, everyone in agreement. T&R should snapshot this page.

May 12, 2008  08:46 AM ET

Maybe thats why he's won some Super Bowls. God forbid millionaire players earn their living.

Darn. I missed disagreeing on that page. Good Kool Aid, though, Hooah!
