Cubs interested in Edmonds

Could the Cubs be interested in signing center fielder Jim Edmonds, just released by the Padres after hitting .178 and struggling in the field? They are exploring the possibility, according to some in the know. Manager Lou Piniella long has desired another left-handed bat to go with Kosuke Fukudome. Felix Pie has been unreliable. Signing Edmonds could allow the Cubs to send Pie to Triple-A Iowa for steady work.

How about a nice <worp> slice of Felix Pie to go with that cup of joe this morning?

Edmonds still plays great defense and brings solid leadership.

He needs to reseed that flavor savor...it took his spirit away.

He shoud have never left the Angels. He was one of the few trades/releases that i have not agreed with when it came to the Halos. Still might have a couple good seasons left in him....bring him back.

He comes to the Padres and does nothing. So it figures he will go somewhere else and most likely produce. The Padres just have that kind of luck.

Fuckyoudome has been with the Cubs like 4 days so how exactly has Piniella "longed" for a lefthanded bat alongside him?

???????
One game means nothing. He can still play. He will rebound and produce. He will not give big numbers but he can still hit and his defense is still solid.

sending pie to the minors....AGAIN....(what was he...misinterpreted as a phenom?...i heard phenom being thrown around...maybe a minor league stud..nothing else..)

i wouldnt mind jim edmonds..he's up there in age...and yeah he's struggling...but maybe he needs to come to a team he's used to playing against...maybe HE could use the minor league stint for a bit? just as a rehab? i know his back problems could be the matter.

May 12, 2008  11:23 AM ET

Go for it. I don't think it will hurt anything.

May 12, 2008  11:41 AM ET

this could work...he can't play everyday any more, so why not get him as a cheap sub...he can still play...

May 12, 2008  11:41 AM ET

Is Felix Pie THAT bad?

May 12, 2008  11:46 AM ET

PUKE!!! That's like having Sadam Hussein run for senate.

May 12, 2008  11:46 AM ET

Hey Cubs Mark Grace will play for ya...he will take compensation in Menthols

May 12, 2008  11:56 AM ET

I haven't really seen Edmonds play this year, but apparently he is struggling in the field. He was fine defensively for STL last year, but I think he is just slowing down and all the nagging injuries have taken their toll. He was a great and clutch Cardinal for many years, but I have doubts about his ability to help anyone any longer. But, as a cheap lowrisk signing, he might be worth a shot.
