Tottenham Hotspur are looking for sponsors to help boost their quest to prise Samuel Eto'o away from Barcelona and after being jeered on Sunday evening he could be one step closer to a move.

Report Offensive CommentI think its possible. Spurs definately seem to show their intent to push the top 4 next season with Ramos planning to cut alot of dead weight from the squad & with the possibility of berbatov leaving.

Report Offensive CommentI wouldn't be surprised by this. Arsenal don't pay big money for players over 25. He would never go to Chelsea. Liverpool and Man U don't need him. So why not Spurs?? Sammie wants a big city (London), a solid coach (one that speaks Spanish is a plus), and a team playing in UEFA or CL. Spurs supply all of that. If they can get the Sponsors to pay up and get something for Berbatov, Spurs might get their man. He would play well with Jenas and Keane. This sounds like a good match, but an expensive one.
Having said all that, ???125,000-a-week may be too much for them to swallow.

Report Offensive CommentThe only team that could swoop in and steal him would be Inter. But if Inter is stupid enough to let Materazzi shoot PKs, then they are stupid enough to let a world class striker slip away.

Report Offensive CommentI shot this down last week but I have been hearing a lot more about this. It does really sound possible.

Report Offensive CommentYeah his weekly page wage would definately break the normal structure Spurs have of <60k a week contracts. They cant expect to attract world class players though with that though. So hopefully they'll throw that by the wayside and bring him in. Im sure whatever we get for Berbatov will cover most if not all of the transfer fee so that i dont think will be of much concern.
Spurs need a better midfield to get the 100% out of Eto'o though, I dont rate Jenas at all due to his inconsistancy. Modric will definately help, but they still need a holding mid and another with more creativity. Jenas, Zokora and Huddlestone wont cut it. (and havent)

Report Offensive CommentJuande is also interested in Sammie's buddy from Espanyol...Kameni. A big, strong, RELIABLE keeper is definitely needed by Spurs. Not sure he's the answer, but it would make a nice selling point to Eto'o to have a fellow Cameroonian between the pipes. Spurs could make something off the sale of Robinson...no doubt about that.
Gaucho68 | 05/12/08, 11:50 AM
Report Offensive CommentAgreed Gaucho. Robinson and Cerny will be gone in the off season, no doubt about it. I know Kameni and Gomez from PSV are two named that ive seen tossed around the Spurs communities. I really hope Ramos can convince either/or to join..It'll be nice to have someone your not consantly worried about in goal.

Report Offensive CommentI'm not sure if Spurs can afford Eto'o. I've hear a rumor that there might be an Eto'o/Berbatov swap, which is financially feasible for both clubs. However, I think Barcelona needs to focus on restructuring its midfield and backfield. That means getting rid of Xavi, Deco, Marquez, Zambrotta, etc. Barca will be able to sign younger players for cheap from the South American leagues while having enough money leftover to make one or two large acquisitions. Perhaps another winger to complement Messi and they could also use a holding midfielder.
pantherfan0728 | 05/12/08, 12:04 PM
Report Offensive CommentI can see that being a problem with a straight swap of Berbatov for Eto'o. I think Spurs will get a pretty penny for Berbatov, and I'd love to see them spend that, and whatever else it would take on Eto'o though. Im not sure if it'll ever happen, but it seems now with Ramos at the helm Spurs are linked with every out of favor star from La Liga. If push comes to shove and Spurs only have the $$ to sign a top class midfielder, or Eto'o I would hope they'd choose the midfielder.. They still do have Darren Bent if Berbatov goes.

Report Offensive CommentI think that if given the choice, Eto'o will pick Inter over Tottenham. Inter will be able to afford him and his salary. Tottenham is looking more plausible though. Eto'o is definitely heading out though.

Report Offensive CommentIt'll be a very interesting off-season for Spurs thats for sure. I would think Eto'o going to Inter all depends if they end up bringing in Mourinho and in turn he'd more than likely have Drogba begging to be brought over.
TrustMe | 05/12/08, 01:58 PM
Report Offensive CommentMourinho is going to AC Milan with Drogba, Cech and Dinho.
Gaucho68 | 05/12/08, 02:09 PM
Report Offensive CommentIs that where he is rumored to be heading now? Cool. it seems like alot of teams in Europe will be doin a whole bunch of cleaning out. Seems like it'll be moves-a-plenty. I'd love to see Spurs go after some of the uphappy players at Valencia.

Report Offensive CommentI thought Ancelotti had been confirmed in his position for next year...
Wherever Mourinho goes, some big names will come with him.
