Busch loves playing bad guy
Posted: Monday May 12, 2008 08:04AM ET
Fans used to love to hate Dale Earnhardt. They booed Darrell Waltrip and Jeff Gordon, too. But all three eventually matured into fan favorites -- and champions. Now, it's Kyle Busch's turn to work through the same kind of growing pains on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit. Saturday's dominating victory in the Dodge Challenger 500 at Darlington Raceway was followed by fans showering the brash 23 year-old with beer cans and insults. He responded by climbing from his Toyota and taking a bow at the finish line, as if to pump more energy into the displeasure. "I don't care," Busch said after leading a race-best 169 of 367 laps, including the final 64, to beat Carl Edwards by 250 yards. "I'm here to race; I'm here to win. If I win, it just makes them more upset and crying on their way home."

Well, you gotta hand it to him. He's got the cajones and gets the job done.

Report Offensive CommentI may jump on the bandwagon as I dont see Kasey winning a race this year. His drought is over a season long now. What about that David Regan popping into the top 12......way to go kid.

Report Offensive CommentI like David Regan. He's quiet and unassuming sort of like the guy he took over from.

Report Offensive CommentHe seems to be well on his way to that championship. And he is gaining more fans by the day. Dare I say it he may be as popular as SR when all is said and done!

Not until he grows up some more. He is similar in some aspects (driving, winning) but Sr. knew how to act the mediator outside of the car.

Report Offensive CommentElephant Boy will probably not finish the season -- unless he changes his attitude, somebody will get tired of his crap and stuff him in the fence!! After drillin' the Bif in the rear end he now has another "fan" to watch out for. What goes around, comes around!

Report Offensive CommentThe last time there was a driver that consistantly got top 10s and drove with this type of determination and will to win, I believe his name was Dale Earnhart Sr. NASCAR needs this to keep the true spirtit of racing and the competition alive. I for one applaude him and Stewart for breaking the mold or in this case rebuilding it.

Report Offensive CommentKyle is awesome! I'm glad he took to Jr. when so many drivers are afraid to even get near him. Don't get me wrong, if he would have spun Jr. on purpose I would have cried foul. Simply put, he didn't! Thanks to Kyle for adding the fun into racing just like Tony and Kevin have over the last 5 or so years. You know, I think I'm going to buy a 18 hat the next race in Texas just to piss all those Jr fans off! LOL

Report Offensive CommentI feel with ya Jackman, I wanted the number 9 to have a great season, seems all the Dodge teams are down this year. Time to switch to Toys I guess.
All those predictions posted here last season about how JGR would be sorry they went to Toyota were sort of, aaahhh, wrong.

Report Offensive CommentHow can you not completely appreciate the talent this young man has? Well, unless you are a tunnel vision Dale Jr. fan. Busch has the bravado and the talent to back it up. This year is so much more enjoyable to watch. How can you not love this year of racing - truthfully?

Report Offensive CommentBeing a JGR and Tony fan I never would have admitted liking Kyle when he raced for Hendrick, although I did. Now I can cheer for him and Tony. I just hope Tony doesnt leave JGR now.
