Marbury in Knicks-Suns swap

One of the first plays Mike D'Antoni is expected to draw up as the Knicks' new coach is for Stephon Marbury to run up the Garden floor ... and out the door back to Phoenix to rejoin the Suns. Once D'Antoni is formally named to succeed Isiah Thomas, he is expected to try to make a push for two of his favorite Suns - forward Boris Diaw and guard Leandro Barbosa, who reportedly have fallen out of favor with Suns management. According to a person close to D'Antoni, one of his first moves would be to get the Knicks to offer Marbury and his expiring $22 million contract as a central part of the deal.

If the Suns can get some draft picks in return, it may be worth the trade. Otherwise, they would be smart to trade Diaw and Barbosa to a different team, in return for a defensive-minded big man.

Good Start - get rid of Cancerbury

May 13, 2008  06:49 AM ET

Phoenix still has a chance to try another run for a title. But if they give up Diaw and Barbosa for a no-good player like Marbury, then they are going into rebuilding mode and most of all need to trade nash for younger players, or draft picks. well, trading shaq would be the best thing to do either way, but i doubt anyone is willing to take him...

Bring them all to NY, Nash, Blur, Diaw, Marion, Amare, Bell, Joe Johnson, Kurt Thomas, etc. At least in NY they can/will afford depth to go with them.

Richardson is already there.

The Knicks would be better off keeping that expiring contract so they can go after LeBron or Dwade when they become free agents.

Did Lou Gosset Jr look like that in his younger days?

barbosa is one step away from being a superstar in my eyes, in some games in the past two years he completely took over with his speed and agility. I think D'Antoni should put the ball in barbosa's hands at point and see what he can do with the opportunity but if he could acquire steve nash that would be great for the knicks but i would feel for amare getting stuck with stephon "I'm terrible"-berry

Trade wont work; money doesn't match-up

Once again JL what are you thinking about. Who in the NBA wants Marbury? Name one team and I'll name a team that won't get out of the first round. He's a cancer! A waste of good money! What has this guy done in the past 5 years that impressed you so much? Leave him with the Knicks and leave them in last place!!!

May 13, 2008  09:16 AM ET

Wishful thinking. Why in the Hell would Kerr trade Diaw and Barbosa? For Starbury? Get real.

May 13, 2008  09:19 AM ET

It should take maybe 2 phone calls for D'Antoni to figure out that noone wants a ride on this trainwreck.

May 13, 2008  09:38 AM ET

The non-existent legacy of the Suns is over as we know it! He should have just stayed in Phoenix...**** bag!

Refreshing to see someone has a brain, why go after bench players with that kind of money? Suck it up for a year and try to build the foundation up while you wait for a cornerstone. You dont spend 22 mill on average players, like they did with Starbury... It would be interested to see Lebron play in that kind of offense, Im not sure if he would thrive or fall. He is a rediculous talent, but he makes his money beating people in the set half court, it be an interest change to see.

May 13, 2008  09:44 AM ET

wow, if this goes through... this will be on par with the lakers practically stealing pau from memphis. knicks get barbosa/diaw AND give away marbury? that move alone would be worth d'antoni's contract.

Better get those eyes checked... either that or remember that its puff puff pass, quite smoking it all and share with your friends, you've had too much already

I would trade marbury for a bag of beans.. what a terrible person to have on your team. and someone is suppose to pay this clown. he should be paying the team to put up with him.

Oh Jack.... a bag of beans? You must be an overspending New Yorker to pay that much for the waste of space called Marbury.

How about Marbury for a cow turd on a stick? .... Stick not included.

May 13, 2008  10:13 AM ET

trade marbury for a new washing machine for the uniforms and a new set of chairs for the players. that is all that P.O.S. is worth. what a tool!!!

May 13, 2008  10:20 AM ET

Marbury contract expires at the end of next season. That's why you would trade for him. You have to look at the longterm picture.
