Where's Ricky Carmichael?

Posted: Tuesday May 13, 2008 06:09AM ET

Ricky Carmichael, the 15-time off-road motorcycle champion, is cutting his teeth in NASCAR's minor leagues, competing in the Camping World Series East division, with an eye toward reaching the Cup series one day. Carmichael, 28, drives for a team owned by Cup driver Ken Schrader and had his series debut at the series' season opener April 19 at Greenville-Pickens (S.C.) Speedway. He finished a respectable fifth in a Chevrolet after starting 11th. His next race is the U.S. Cellular 200 on Sunday at Iowa Speedway near Des Moines, a track designed by former Cup champion Rusty Wallace.

Where is Waldo. This guys sure would be one of the oldest rookies to join Sprint Cup.....he is 28 now. Anything Schrader is involved with I am wishing luck to and backing!

In my opinion, Ricky is doing it right. He earned the right to get a ride in a decent car and work his way up in cars. He isn't jumping in a cup car, just because he is successful in another race series. Good on him. Lips, if you don't like stories about other than Jr, or Kyle busch, then just pass them over and don't read them.

New blood is always good. Maybe he can take Biffle's place at Rousch.

More importantly, where is Ricky Bobby?

What this guy did on motocross bikes was phenomenal. I???m curious to see if he can translate it.

I'm looking forward to see what he can do in a car. He seems to be doing pretty well so far for a guy with no background in racing anything with 4 wheels. The guy was amazing on a bike.

dipshitz, this is more of a story then the normal drivel that SI puts on here about the "popular" drivers. This guys did great on his bikes, then wanted a new challenge, so he is trying 4 wheels. Working his way up the right way. Didn't have daddy get him a ride, and didn't jump right from open wheel into a cup ride. IF you think that just because you are a chick, we will cut you slack, you are saddly mistaken.
There are some that post here that have been involved with racing since you were still crapping green.

I must disagree. I believe any story involving Ricky Carmichael is a story worth reading. The 4 wheel racing community is lucky to have him. He will bring a lot of us 2 wheel fans with him. 15 time AMA champion, 150 moto wins, 2 perfect seasons ( thats 24 races in a row without a loss!!!!!) Can any car drivers record even come close? And all by 27 years of age. I am not saying he will come into the car world and dominate. I'm saying he is a man with one hell of a work ethic and a very good roll model for any sport. We miss him greatly over here on the 2 wheel side and hope you guys will treat him with the respect of a great champion that he is.
thanks

john you couldn't have said it better! The G.O.A.T. is one of the hardest working and fiercest competitor's any sport will ever see. His work ethic's are almost unmatched by any sport. And your also right about him being one of the best role models one could hope for. Your not given the the name Greatest Of All Time. You earn it.
