Bears paying $15 million for a kicker?

Posted: Tuesday May 13, 2008 06:31AM ET

Robbie Gould figured his big payday was coming, it was just a matter of when. The Bears made Gould the highest-paid kicker in NFL history Monday by signing him to a five-year, $15.5 million extension through 2013. The $15.5 million includes performance incentives and a $4.25 million signing bonus.

It's Hot!

It's Not!

Can he throw better than Grossman? If so money well spent. That kind of money he'd better put them through the uprights every time. Don't give us any of that "Chicago wind" crap either.

"Bears paying kicker how much?"

more than their starting qb..

Well done!

The kid is good. But in terms of pro contracts, $3.1 mil is not that much... A-Rod makes that in a month.

That and do you see the heart 90% of NFL teams go through with very bad kickers? i.e. Dallas.

When you find a Good/Great Young Kicker, you hold on too him. Chicago held just a little too tight though.

Now Hester, Harris, and Urlacher wan't their money. Urlacher doesn't need it though.

Good money for a guy that has never kicked a field goal over 49 yards..Good kicker though..

Report Offensive Comment

He is 27/36 from 40-49 yards out, and 0-2 50 or more.

Report Offensive Comment

That's insane. He's a great kicker but c'mon.

Well, A-rod plays a lot more games in a month. That's too much money for somebody who doesn't get hit, period.

Report Offensive Comment

they obviously don't plan on seeing the end zone much the next few years

Two special teams players account for most of the Bears' scoring. Gould and Hester. As far as I'm concerned, lock him up. If we lose him we don't score.

Yep

No faith in Grossman? haha. Nope.

Report Offensive Comment

That is absolutely stupid. Titans got Rob Bironas for $1.4. I'd venture to say he's one of the top 5 or 6 kickers. Bironas, not Gould.

Brian Urlacher is watching.....

Report Offensive Comment

An average salary of 3.1 million a year. I think he is good but no kicker is worth that much per year.

Report Offensive Comment

Too bad he can't kick a 60-90 yard field goals. 'Cause knowing the Bears offense, such kicks would make their games more exciting to watch and would keep Rex "The Interceptee" Grossman off the field.

Report Offensive Comment

too bad they could not put that money towards a QB who is not color blind and throw to the correct jersey.

Report Offensive Comment

watch him be the Barry Zito of the Bears
he woun't live up to the extension

Report Offensive Comment

Maybe he can throw as well and will end up starting QB by the seventh game.
