Gordon: Busch good villain
Posted: Wednesday May 14, 2008 06:55AM ET
Jeff Gordon knows a thing or three about being cast in the role of villain by NASCAR fans. The guy has spent his whole Sprint Cup career being the object of scorn and derision by the ticket-buying public. So, when he talks on the subject, he does so as a respected authority. And right now, Gordon sees a new villain rising up to challenge his status as No. 1 most-hated. That would be Kyle Busch. Tuesday afternoon, Gordon was asked whether he considered Busch to be "the next great villain" in NASCAR. "He definitely has the personality that could be the villain," Gordon said. From 2004 through 2007, Gordon and Busch were teammates at Hendrick Motorsports. And Busch got a personally guided tour of the causes and effects of NASCAR infamy.

Report Offensive CommentI enjoy keeping an eye on NASCAR, but don't consider myself a "hard core" fan.
Like him or not Kyle Busch is without a doubt the most interesting character in NASCAR. He's a guy that causes people to open the paper to see what antics he's been pulling each weekend.
Add in that his skills are top notch and his talent deep and you have a guy that is going to make people click the turnstiles for years.
He is what he is. Enjoy the show....

Report Offensive CommentIf you are stopping by ghost....then I guess you have a point. You can tell the interest has increased just based on this room, (even with the silly stories we get). It helps him that he has talent...otherwise he would be just another d#ck.

Report Offensive CommentGood Morning; it is great to look at a story about Kyle and not see a bunch of negative blabber. as I said the other day, his fan base is growing and the haters are dwindling. He sure adds an element of surprise to Nascar. Hopefully the haters will leave Kyle and Dale Jr. off their bashing list for a while.

Report Offensive Commentthe only reason people hate on him is he cries like a little hoe when he gets a taste of his own medicine (aka steven wallace punting him).. and honestly, do you think spinning out the sports most popular driver was a good p r move? not hatin, just sayin..

Report Offensive CommentWell Gordon would know who could fill the villain role seeing as he once occupied it. Bet he is glad he's not in that cat bird seat anymore!

Report Offensive CommentSVT...NASCAR is not just all about Jr! Kyle makes racing great again! He is fun to watch and a great driver that can back up his mouth! BTW...I am a Jr fan but hate the bashing crap!

Report Offensive CommentI wouldn't say Gordon was ever a villain, per se. He was just a guy who didn't fit in, but raced hard like he belonged anyway, and turned out to be one of the all-time greats. He wasn't hated because of anything he did, just because of who he was (or wasn't). I'm still not a fan of his, but I can at least respect him as a driver.
Busch, on the other hand, asks to be hated. He welcomes it, goes out of his way to cultivate it, and throws it back in the fans' faces like he's playing heel in wrestling. He's playing villain almost like it's being written for him. And he's especially grating as the bad guy because he can back up every last bit of his trash talk. I'll boo him as loudly as anybody else, but I'm actually glad he is being the way he is. I want to see him lose and be put in his place, but I don't think I ever want to see him change.

Report Offensive Commentnin_man..well said, you have the outlook that a true Nascar fan should have.
you put into words exactly what bothers most of Kyles detractors. He backs it up.
I totally respect your comment about not wanting to see him change.Your post has to be one of the best I have read by a non Busch fan.

Report Offensive CommentAs I have said, I am in the group of Kyle busch's haters. BUT he can drive.. If and when he becomes a man and not a spoiled boy, he will be one he// of an addition to NASCAR. He doesn't make a good role model yet but hopefully he will some day!!!

Report Offensive CommentSorry, but he is not a villain. He is an immature kid. Think back to the new drivers, they are all immature,a dn ned to learn from the mentors of the sport. Not a J. Gordon fan, but he is a great mentor of the sport.
Everyone who fusses about Kyle step back and think about this. If Kyle just shut up, and ran his race, and wasn't being an outspoke goof wouldn't he be fun to watch. More fun i mean. We all fuss because Jimmie Johnson is vanilla, but how did everyone feel when he just shut up and drove. Still pissed people off by the way. There will always be people that hate whoever isn't their driver, and there will always be a Robbie Gordon, and/or a Jimmie Spencer to keep it funny. I wasn't a Spencer fan, but it was cool to see him get pissed and be a man about things...

Best line yet ",,,,And he's especially grating as the bad guy because he can back up every last bit of his trash talk." Never truer words.
El Guapo Returns!! | 05/14/08, 01:03 PM
Report Offensive CommentI agree with what Nin said. Jeff Gordon became a "villian" because he was beating everyone on the race track. He never said or did anything to incite a crowd like Kyle is doing.

Report Offensive CommentHes just like Dale Sr when he came up. And Rusty Wallace. Back then i was a huge Bill Elliot fan and referred to Dale and Rusty as Darth Vader and StormTrooper #1. Cause Dale and Rusty always used to slam their opponents into the wall.
