Agent: No offer for Redden

Wade Redden, an unrestricted free agent as of July 1, hasn't rejected any offer to return to the Ottawa Senators mainly because he hasn't received one, his agent said yesterday. Don Meehan also labelled as "nonsense" a report last week that said Redden had rejected a request by the Senators to take as much as a $3-million U.S. pay reduction from the $6.5 million he made last season. Meehan said he hasn't talked to Senators general manager Bryan Murray, though he expects he will soon.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Earlier this year Redden said he would take a discount to stay in Ottawa the only team he has ever played for. If they dont sign him (even for less) he will be hard to replace. If he signs somewhere else for a lot less we'll know the rumours of his off ice lifestyle are prolly true.

I really hope he takes that 'discount' in Ottowa.

After stinking the joint out with his lousy play and refusing to wave the no-trade clause, why would the Sens want this loser back? He's loaded with talent but is a gutless floater who vanishes when it really counts. Why, you???d think he???s related to Alexei Yashin.

Good thing he refused to waive the no-trade clause, otherwise the Oilers would have mortgaged their future to get him.

Wade Redden isn't worth $6.5 million. He's a 30-40 point defenseman who doesn't show up for games....He'll be lucky to get someone to sign him for $4 million a year...

May 14, 2008  10:59 AM ET

Unfortunately, PhillyMike, there are enough dumb GMs out there who'd probably give him what he wants.

May 14, 2008  11:14 AM ET

all he wants is a big bag of coke from emery...thats the kinda of signing bonus hes looking for in ottawa

May 14, 2008  12:23 PM ET

I'd laugh if Detroit picked him up for a bargain and created a stud out of him. LOL... that would be funny.

May 14, 2008  12:50 PM ET

Reddens last 3 years :

05'06 65GP 10G-40A-50PTS +35 23:28 TOI (13th scorer among d-men)
06'07 64GP 7G-29A-36PTS +1 22:54 TOI (37th scorer among d-men)
07'08 80GP 6G-32A-38PTS +11 22:12 TOI (22nd scorer among d-men)

I never really noticed his ice time...shouldnt it be higher for a #1 d-man?Well anyways...he's not worth 6.5 million per year anymore. I would think 3.5 max per year. Maybe 4 million max. Wherever he goes,i think he'll thrive more if he's not the #1 guy.

May 14, 2008  01:39 PM ET

He's worth $3 - $3.5M, if he's willing to sign for that, keep him, if not let him go somewhere else.

May 14, 2008  01:50 PM ET

who does he think he is playing that way with that salary, bryan mccabe?

May 14, 2008  02:04 PM ET

A change will be good for him. Things have gotten pretty sour in Ottawa.
Agree he's not worth more than 4 million though...but an arbitrator might disagree.
Be interesting to see where he ends up. Any team looking for a top 4 D-Man is going to be interested...so that would mean his options should be plentiful.

May 14, 2008  02:20 PM ET

Yeah, there will be more interest in Redden than he deserves, for sure. He is, like I said about Huet a week ago, the beneficiary of really good timing for his contract to come up. SJ will likely keep Campbell, so Redden may be the highest profile d-man available come July 1. Him and Liles out of Colorado, I guess, but I think Redden is the higher profile name of the two...watch for some team that hasn't done its homework (I'm looking at you, Chicago) to blow the other teams out of the water with a $5 million bid, to ensure they can get him and his addiction to a certain brand of cola on their squad.

May 14, 2008  02:50 PM ET

Baun he's a free agent so an arbitrator wont be involved.

May 14, 2008  03:48 PM ET

I agree with goCan, the timing just clicked. He's not worth 6.5, he's a 3.5-4 guy. A GM is going to have to be in the gambling mood though. He has a history of not showing up when he's needed most. Maybe this can change with the right team.

May 14, 2008  04:26 PM ET

Guarantee you wherever he goes he gets more than 4.5. And that's a conservative estimate! I think he'll get more than 5.

May 14, 2008  05:46 PM ET

Most likely...there's alot of crazy(read: stupid) GM's out there. I wouldnt be surprised if he got that much. I wonder if the Rangers will make a pitch? What do you think otherone81?Do you want him on your team?

May 14, 2008  07:06 PM ET

not a bad place for him to land - there's LOTS of coke in New York!

May 14, 2008  11:31 PM ET

Sather definitely is that stupid to give him 6 million.

May 23, 2008  06:04 PM ET

The Associated Press reports that he just signed a 4-year/17 billion peso dealto coach peewee level field hockey in Bogota, Columbia.
