Beasley or Rose for Heat?

Posted: Wednesday May 14, 2008 05:51AM ET

As Tuesday's draft lottery approaches, the buzz builds around Memphis point guard Derrick Rose, whom a growing number of teams now favor over Kansas State power forward Michael Beasley, one NBA personnel official asserted. The Heat told one NBA person it leans toward Rose if it picks first, though a Heat official cautioned there is no decision. An official with another team who spoke to Miami was left believing Pat Riley loves Rose, but Beasley also has some support internally.

If the Heat get the first choice, I hope that they pick Derrick Rose. Even though the Heat need a big power forward, Rose is the better draft value. The Heat can then trade one of their veteran point guards.
It is important for the Heat - or whoever has the first choice - to get Rose before the Knicks do. Of course, if the Knicks happen to get the first choice (maybe David Stern will rig the lottery for them?), then we know they're picking Rose.
The main thing is to deny the Knicks.

Cant we wait til the ping pong balls drop before we talk about this? Last year the Celtics and Griz were to get Durant/Oden, and look what happened....Way too early for this...

Report Offensive Comment

both of them are really good...you pick Rose and you get the point guard that you need...you pick Beasley and you trade him for some available point guards, like TJ Ford ,either way is a win win situation for the HEAT...if they pick first.

Another reason to go for Derrick Rose - he has a name that is known in basketball. In the past, Jalen Rose and Malik Rose have had success in the league. As far as I can tell, there have not been any "Beasley"s in the league.

Beasley to me seems like a tweener. A little on the short side to be a great 4 little on the slow side to be a great 3.

ummmm.....who won the lottery? don't they have to go through the climatic ping pong balls of fate. who will they pick if they get third or fourth. ask boston about planning on winning the lottery. didn't work out too well for them.

Having the worst record does not mean you are guaranteed the top pick

In 2007, the worst 3 worst teams were the Celtics, Grizzlies, and Bucks. The Blazers, Hawks, and Sonics had the top 3 draft choices though. The Heat have less

This is the Heat's odds on draft day

1 .250
2 .215
3 .177
4 .358

.535 is the odds of acquiring the 3rd AND 4th pick. Even though this teams may have better odds then any other team, they are still more likely to not win the top 2 draft picks.

who say miami has the #1 pick?? until we have the draft order this speculation is stupid.

Beasley would be my choice but there is no guarantee Heat gets either..

There is no reason to believe that Miami will win the lottery. But for the sake of this hypothetical situation, I have to go with Derrick Rose. While both have the potential to be franchise players, I truly believe that Derrick Rose has more potential to be an NBA superstar for years to come. He is explosively athletic, a proven floor general and a leader off and on the court. His attitude, charisma and intagibles are unmatched.

Miami needs a positive spark-plug in a lineup full of sad players. Rose has the personality to generate happiness in the locker room, which translates to chemistry on the court.

If Miami is smart, they will draft Rose and secure a back-court combination with Dwyane Wade and Shawn Marion by offloading veterans with bloated contracts (Im looking at you Jason Williams). Rose is a player who, if drafted, will allow Wade to play SG the entire game and make other players around him better. I don't think Beasley can do that.
