Bengals WR Chad Johnson will race against a horse on June 9 at River Downs. To benefit the charity "Feed the Children," Johnson will try to match strides with a 4-year-old colt named Restore the Roar over RD's turf course. The event, billed as "Man vs. Beast," will be the feature race and will be simulcast to more than 400 outlets across the country and in South America. The horse will break from the inside from a starting gate at the eighth pole, and Johnson will break from the outside rail going 11/16 of a mile to the wire. The distances are calculated to create a photo finish.

I can't help but Love Chad Johnson's presence in the NFL. This is good stuff for charity from a guy who doesn't take himself too seriously (compared to others). Go Chad.

Didn't Jesse Owens do this?

May 31, 2007  03:06 PM ET

How's the horse going to deal with all that trash talk?

May 31, 2007  08:24 PM ET

Heh heh, good luck Ocho CInco! :)

Chris Collinsworth did this when he was still playing for the bengals. The horse won.

I like giving to charity, but as a black man I am disgusted with this. Yes Jesse Owens did it before, in front of a group of white men, at time not to different from to day when black men were thought of as animals. Get a life. Chad find another way to raise money for charity than entertaining the popular majority of this country in this manner. Media and blog writers today call us thugs (see any VICK story or other major black athlete blog who is in trouble with the law), which is another way of saying animal or a more polite way of saying White America???s favorite secret word for black people.

i am always amazed that people can turn anything into a race issue. Chris Collinsworth raced a horse he is white. Race is still an issue because angry black men go around looking for a chance to bring it up. This is a fun way for Chad to help out a charity. Good luck Chad

Slatz, How about Chad Johnson picks cotton for charity. Whats funny to me and most of my other well educated friends is how people like your self are quick to call someone angry who is proud of their race and speaks out against silly things like this event or how quick you are to dismiss racial issues that are still prevelant today. Your labeling of angry black men lets me know that you are probably an enabler the things the make black men angry. The secret racist society welcomes you.
