Yankees GM Cashman under fire

Posted: Thursday May 15, 2008 06:28AM ET

The top baseball operations executive under Hank and Hal Steinbrenner in the Yankees' hierarchy is General Manager Brian Cashman, whose contract expires after the season. The more the Yankees lose, and the more impatient Hank Steinbrenner becomes, the more speculation Cashman faces on his future. Hank Steinbrenner said in spring training that he hoped to discuss a contract extension with Cashman, but Cashman would prefer to wait until the off-season. By then, if the Yankees have missed the playoffs, Steinbrenner may not want him back.

It's Not!

If Hankie fires Cashman, it's all over.

Maybe the Yankees should start taking steroids again.

By the way, why is Pettite still playing? Shouldn't he have been suspended?

I dont think cashman would be crushed, If it is the end of the year he could just walk.

Can you read? First of all, HGH wasn't banned by baseball when Pettitte used it. Secondly Selig said that none of the players mentioned in the Mitchell report would be disciplined. Try to keep up before engaging your mouth or fingers as the case may be.

Of course they need to know who is available, what that person's talent is and how much it will cost, before moving out cashman. looks like it was Hank who wanted to extend his contract this spring, but cashman chose to wait. Decisions decisions...But when teams are winning verything is great, when they are not winning, everything is goes wrong.. Unless they are rebuilding!

Just another day in yankville.. so much talent.. sad.

Mussina won his fifth straight. Cano went 4-4, and is hitting well over .300 this month. The bullpen has been excellent. And all that without Posada and A-Rod, and just 3.5 games out.

Sorry...but where, exactly, is the fire? Calm down, all.

Cashman is playing it smart. If he comes up big, he's golden and gets a big contract. If the Yanks don't do that well, he leaves his options open and won't have to deal with Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber. The way the Steinbrenner clan has interjected itself into GM and coaching issues over the years, maybe they should fire themselves at the end of the season if they don't win it all.

I haven't forgiven George Steinbrenner for what he did to Billy Martin. May he and his phhfffttt offspring live with Saddam Hussein in hell.

I was led to believe this was the day we went with avatars depicting the oppressed because of what the mods did yesterday in oppressing the freedom of the members of PT. Took me an hour to find an oppressed cartoon fish and I'm sticking with it.

I should acknowledge that it was Homey D that suggested Klaus from American Dad.

Yanks still have time and will adjust to the new manager.. when they get healthy they will hit their stride. They still have plenty of talent.. this is the year they need Derek to step up and be the leader of this team. Ownership has always hurt the club but Georges son is clueless and clearly an idiot.

Hey Cashman, take a look at how happy, relaxed, rejuvenated Joe Torre appears in L.A. Being bounced from the Bronx by that classless idiot WILL be a blessing.

Hal and Cashman are the ones running the Yanks. Hank just runs his mouth. I'm not ready to put Hal in the same category as Hank. You rarely hear from or even see Hal.
Hank must not watch the Yankees much. This is how they start every year. Even if they don't make the playoffs it's hardly a tragedy. Ask the Red Sox how not making the playoffs 2 years ago (Injuries to Papi etc) worked out for them.

He reminds me of a guy I know who predicted Tyson would lose to Buster Douglas. He forgets he pisked Tyson to lose ten fights in a row at that point but he loves to tell everyone how right he was.

Damn double taps

He-he-he.

As a Red Sox fan I would be happy to see Cashman go. With Torre gone and Cashman on his way out there'll be no competent person to manage games and direct the Empire. They'll fall farther and farther behind the Sox. It'll be a blast watching Hank Jr. drive it to the ground.

The NY Times and every1 else in the media needs to stop making a story where there isn't one. Cash wants to see how things go with Hank during the year and wait till the off-season to renew his contract. Big deal, they do that with most of their players too. Just because they are off to a bad start and have a ton of injuries people gotta write a headline of "Cashamn under fire" What an absoulte joke..... we got off to an even worse start last year and still made the playoffs so evey1 needs to calm down.... we are only 2 games behind the sox in the loss column, thats all that matters cause the rays will home back to earth soon and it will be another summer of yanks vs. sox

Basically every1 needs to slow their role

WHAT! But then they wouldn't sell any papers....oh wait.....

Yankee- Base-ball,
Nice point. How would it look for them to re new the GM when they have a policy of not signing players until their contracts are up?

With the Yankees and the Mets stinking out the joint they gotta sell papers. Other then the crossword I barely read the paper anymore anyway. It's all the same everyday anyway.

Unrest in the middle east.

There, I just saved everyone 50 cents
