Edmonds, Zambrano don't get along
Posted: Thursday May 15, 2008 07:37AM ET
Before signing Jim Edmonds on Wednesday, general manager Jim Hendry made sure the clubhouse leaders would welcome the controversial outfielder. But Hendry apparently didn't talk to pitcher Carlos Zambrano, who has had problems with Edmonds in the past. Asked if he was excited to have a player like Edmonds on the team, Zambrano curtly replied "no comment" and said he didn't want to discuss the acquisition. The two players have a history dating back to a Cubs-Cardinals game at Wrigley Field on July 19, 2004, when Zambrano was ejected from a game for throwing at Edmonds.

Report Offensive CommentIt is not about what he wants but what is best for the club.. these players think the world revolves around them. He needs to be a team player or not play.. crazy.

Report Offensive CommentClearly they need to bring in Maddox and let him slap this guy back to reality. He clearly thinks more of himself than the team.

Report Offensive CommentI still cannot understand what Chicago sees in Edmonds after the disaster in San Diego. And a shorter/longer CF was not the biggest issue for him - offensive woes were. By the way, according to reports in some papers, Edmonds was described as "aloof" in the Padres club house. Can anyone give Zambrano the benefit of the doubt here, and possibly ponder Zambrano may be onto something? How many of us here were in any of these teams' clubhouses?

Report Offensive CommentSo maybe Edmonds was "aloof". Oh, the horror.
Whatever the case, Zambrano has just guaranteed that the he--or now, the media--are going to make matters worse.

Report Offensive CommentEdmonds was a positive force in both the Angel and Cardinal clubhouses. Zambrano is a head case and needs to be a professional. The reporter who asked him the question knew what Zambrano would have to say and got some slop to put in print.

Report Offensive CommentF*** all of you. Zambrano's the Man! Edmond's departure was cheered by his team mates, he's a cancer. He'll be gone before Zambrano, and Cubs management will be making excuses, again.

Report Offensive Commentedmonds plays to win.period.the guy has sacrificed life and limb time and time again on the field to make his pitchers look better. zambrano should be jumping for joy at the prospect of having one of the greatest centerfielders ever playing behind him.
