Roy says no to Avalanche
Posted: Friday May 16, 2008 06:39AM ET
Patrick Roy will not be the coach of the Avalanche. Not for next season, anyway. Roy told The Denver Post late Thursday night he wants to stay in Quebec at least through this coming season, mainly to keep coaching his sons, Jonathan and Frederick. But Roy said he does want to coach in the NHL at some point, probably when his younger son, Frederick, leaves junior hockey. "When Fred is done, it will be different," Roy said. "But this is OK with me for now." Frederick Roy, 17, a center, played five games for the Remparts this past season but is expected to play a larger role next season. Roy's older son, Jonathan, 19, has played goalie for the Remparts the last two seasons.

Report Offensive CommentI'll have to think on it Peter...
Newpapers used to be associated with trees that the paper came from.
Now it seems more often than not, it is associating itself with Tree stumps as reporters.

Report Offensive CommentThat's okay - the Avs (and the rest of the NHL hockey world) prefer you stay in Quebec too. As if that is what the kids need - we've all seen how great of a coach and role model you have been for them. Oh - yeah Jonathan is the goalie - the third string goalie.

Haha, I used to help coach his kids when I was younger at Littleton's hockey program, he was just as bad when they were five. The only reason colorado would even consider this is for ticket sales, but we don't have that problem here. Hockey and football are our only two consistent winning sports teams....

Report Offensive CommentI think its important that I get this out of the way before it becomes too much of a distraction for everyone involed...I too have said no to the Avalanche. I also said no to the Leafs and the Sharks. As well, I said no to my community league that was looking for members to join the board and I said no to the lady at the grocery store that wanted me to try a sample of some deep fried cheese thingy...sorry, it just didn't look good. This is not the right time for me or my family and I'm flattered that I was never even considered but I know they all want to ask me. Maybe they're just shy.

Report Offensive CommentJust so everybody knows, it wasn't that he called a presser to announce this. Somebody from the Denver Post asked him, and he said no. I don't understand why the radio personalities in Denver were so convinced that Roy was Giguere's guy. We went through the same thing when Pierre LaCroix stepped down as GM. Everybody was saying that Roy was gonna be the GM, which was ludicrous of course. Then Coach Q leaves, and all of a sudden Patrick Roy has the job guaranteed. That's ridiculous. It won't surprise me if St. Patrick is the Avs coach one day, it just obviously wasn't going to be this year.
wtnelson | 05/16/08, 05:08 PM
Report Offensive CommentYup...let him sharpen his coaching skills for another 2-3 decades...and when he's ready,he'll make his move. If they want him of course. And if he's any good.

Report Offensive CommentHey boston...Do you think he would still want to bring his sons with him at that point so they can get to the NHL one day too?
