Penguins center Jordan Staal played Thursday in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference final, and he had landlord and former teammate Mark Recchi to thank. Recchi, who rents his suburban Pittsburgh guest house to Staal, arranged for a private plane that allowed Staal to attend his grandfather's funeral Wednesday in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Staal's grandfather died Sunday.

Life in today's NHL. Private planes, movie stars, swimming pools...sounds just like the Beverly Hill Billies.

Got to give him credit for a great performance the day after the funeral.

Yeah...great performance by Staal. The Pens look like they frustrate easily if they go down a couple of goals. Are they going to respond the same way against the Wings? If thats the case.....the Wings PP will tear them apart.

bostongm, nicely put sir! Stall was probably playing in memory of his loved one and almost single handedly brought Pitt back on track for the sweep. Impressive. Good point about how Detroit's power play will pick them apart if they lose composure. Couldn't agree more

Never had any doubts about Recchi's class or leadership abilities. Nice gesture!

I heard the Flyers offered him a plane too Dcruiser...for some reason he wouldn't use the WWI sopwith camel with Snoopy at the controls though.

From what I read in other papers, it isn't Recchi's plane. (Recchi doesn''t own one.) He just helped Jordan rent a private plane for this trip.
