NFL teams lining up for LA market?

The San Diego Chargers' stadium lease deal expires this year. Stadium leases for the New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders expire after the 2010 season, a year before the Vikings' Metrodome lease expires. And the owners of all three teams have been in the NFL much longer than Vikings owner Zygi Wilf. They all would be expected to receive preference over the Vikings for a move to Los Angeles, or elsewhere.

Why are NFL teams even bothering? LA had two teams in their history and let both go. Now, granted one was originally from Oakland but, come on, it's obvious people in LA don't care about the NFL. Just college and only USC and UCLA.

Purple Pride to LA. Minnesota lost the Lakers, then the North Stars, almost lost the Twinkies, and now they are gonna lose the Purple Pansies. Maybe the people in Minnesota should become more supportive of their teams instead of being so fairweatherish.

that only thing that matters in L.A. is the LAKERS,L.A, it always has been a basketball city...always about Wilt Chamberlain,Jerry West all the way to Magic,Kareem,Scott,Worth and recently Shaq and Kobe, that's why nobody was paying attention to the awful Raiders and they had to go...they sucked back then and they suck now...L.A, is a big market and the NFL wants to bring a team back but it will take years and years until they developed a fan base in this city....just like Tom Cruise: mission impossible....

May 16, 2008  08:05 AM ET

the naming competition for the relocated nfl franchise will get interesting...LA couldnt really care that much about getting another NFL team.

May 16, 2008  08:19 AM ET

LA is the new Jacksonville/Houston: Every team with a stadium deal that they don't like will threaten to move there if they don't get a new stadium paid for by the taxpayers.

The owners love not having a team in LA. If they let a team move there then they lose their bargaining leverage with their own cities/states.

May 16, 2008  08:34 AM ET

LA doesnt want a team there the NFL wants a team there. Great point Trainwreck!!

May 16, 2008  08:38 AM ET

Hey Trainwreck the Oilers went to Tennessee

Jacksonville was an expansion team along with Carolina and Houston. The Texans are going to hurt people this year, look out!!!

May 16, 2008  08:45 AM ET

Teams and the NFL are more interested in LA than LA is intersted in the NFL. Plus the LA VIkings just sounds wrong.

May 16, 2008  09:00 AM ET

now that would be a slap in the face if the Saints took their football and packed it up and went to LA after all the stuff that city has been through and has backed the team since the huricane. Dam that would be cold.

May 16, 2008  09:02 AM ET

Patriotscheated, it's not the fans fault all the Minnesota sports owners are greedy low balling business owners you ****. With all the threats that have come to Minnesota sports teams we still have the four major sports teams. No way in hell the Viking get taken. They'd have to be extorted from us like the Seattle Supersonics.

May 16, 2008  09:07 AM ET

Why the **** does California need another team? They have enough, they have had teams in LA and they left. If they take my Vikings I will never watch the NFL again.

May 16, 2008  09:08 AM ET

Move the Rams back to LA...stick them in the original blue and yellow unis...move the aint's to St. Louis--hey..the St. Louis Saints sounds real religious---tell Oakland to stay where they are---and leave the Vikes in Minnesota---While I am at it...they should move the Stars back to Minnesota too--and combine all the rotten southern NHL teams and put them in Dallas.

May 16, 2008  09:15 AM ET

$crew LA. They don't deserve a team.

May 16, 2008  09:55 AM ET

I can't believe there aren't any comments about the Raiders. Why would LA ever be desperate enough to see that loser Davis back in town? He's the biggest carbetbagger in the NFL.

May 16, 2008  09:56 AM ET

The Charges are moving. Taking the Saints out of NO would be a huge PR mistake when the area is still desparately rebuilding. Vikings and Raiders will eventually get new stadiums after the NFL bullies/threatens state politicians for funding.

May 16, 2008  10:05 AM ET

Slug, you got it dead on buddy. The Raiders to L.A.? Wow.......after all the cr*p that the city, the league and the franchise went through the first time they moved to the Mauseleum. Given Al Davis' history though ya never know.

May 16, 2008  10:29 AM ET

I don't get it. If the market in LA is so good, why did they lose the teams they had?? Am I supposed to get all hot and bothered because there is a team from LA. They have had teams before, if they can't keep em, oh well.

May 16, 2008  10:39 AM ET

We don't really need a team in L.A. Least of all the Raiders. Their games are like one big prison break.

May 16, 2008  10:45 AM ET

Everybody can hate on LA all you want. There are still plenty of fans out here. We lost our teams because of stupid owners. We had 2 of the worst owners in the NFL. L.A. had better attendance for their teams than 2/3 of the NFL especially the Raiders. A winner needs to be put out there and for that we need a team that has an owner willing to spend money. How many teams sellout their games if they are having a bad season?

WTF!! We're building a new college stadium, new baseball stadium. Now we're supposed to pony up over half a billion for Ziggy? Maybe we want to use tax money on our schools so kids don't grow up to be idiots like you. Owners, buy your own freaking houses, cuz' you ain't helping me buy mine.
