Yankee Stadium NHL game in doubt
Posted: Friday May 16, 2008 07:06AM ET
Yankee Stadium's status as one of the front-runners to host the NHL's next outdoor game could be in jeopardy, Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "There is some construction going on, which may impact us," he said. "There are some winterization issues because it's an older stadium. As I sit here today, I don't know whether or not they can be resolved."...Bettman said he received a letter from Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell asking the league to look into playing a Penguins-Philadelphia Flyers game at Penn State's football stadium. An announcement could come by early next month, Bettman said.

I would like one last event in January in Yankee stadium before someone turns out the lights for good. But it has to be an Islander Ranger game.

Report Offensive CommentThe way they are playing right now... they need something to take the focus off of the team. I do believe they will get better but the manager does not have the chance at development.. it is win now or "next"!

Report Offensive CommentFlyers-Pens in Happy Valley would be awesome. 107,000 hockey fans, split between two hated rivals? That would be insanely great hockey.

Report Offensive CommentTwo Penn State Teams in Yankee stadium...I just can't get there somehow.
So...is Bettman considering another outdoor piece with the Pens again?
I think Otherone might be onto something when he emphatically suggests something is brewing between Gary and Crosby besides paps smear...Oops I meant beer.

Report Offensive CommentHow about a Western Conference matchup? The NHL needs to stop sucking off Crosby, Malkin, and Ovechkin.

Report Offensive CommentI like the idea of the outdoor thing, but alas, I don't think Yankee Stadium is suited for it.
Happy Valley? sure, any football stadium is, but if they do have one at Yankee Stadium, it could only be Rangers/Islanders.
this does prove, yet again, the Bettman doesn't get it. Biggest market, why the heck wouldn't they try to work it out.

Report Offensive CommentThe Rangers and Islanders are incredibly boring franchises, that's why. Sean Avery is the only person on either team that's even remotely interesting, and every one hates him. If the next outdoor game is Rangers-Islanders, it would fail horribly outside New York.

Mcmelt-Stop putting impossibe questions out there. It makes our heads hurt and not even Gocan could offer a long enough explanation by way of an answer.

Report Offensive CommentI second that suggestion for an all-Pennsylvania outdoor game.

Report Offensive Commentno place to really tailgate at Yankee Stadium. Too bad. But I think the outdoor thing would be a blast.
They may as well let all the eastern teams (except the devils. They can't even sell out their own place for a playoff game) do it. Mr. Spread Hockey All Over" should be reminded that they can't do these things in Florida, Texas, Phoenix...etc

Report Offensive CommentI say an Original Six match-up. The Rangers vs Red Wings. I think that would be a good one. Who wouldnt want to see Avery all over Osgood's face?

Report Offensive CommentYankees are the suckiest sucks to have ever sucked this year. At least the Rays are in first and not Boston. I said this before and I'll say it again: one day the Rays pitching will catch up with all their #1 draft picks.
