Giants SF savior to resign

Peter Magowan announced Friday he will retire as the Giants' president and managing general partner at the end of this season, ending a 16-year reign that brought to San Francisco a new ballpark, Barry Bonds, a World Series and ultimately scorn for the team's role in the center of the baseball steroids storm. Magowan's impending departure represents a seismic shift in Bay Area sports ownership. Even if his legacy was tarnished by the steroids scandal, and his unflattering inclusion in baseball's Mitchell Report, he will be remembered for his role in preventing the Giants from leaving town in 1992. "Peter Magowan did save baseball for San Francisco," Commissioner Bud Selig told The Chronicle.

Localboy54, that's pretty good. Perhaps a set of engraved blinders as well.
