Lake house swings TE to Auburn

Lassiter tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen committed to Auburn Friday evening. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound junior chose Auburn over Clemson and Stanford. It came down to Auburn and Clemson," Lutzenkirchen told Inside the Auburn Tigers. "Stanford was in it, but distance became a factor. "The main reason I liked Clemson was because of the lake. We've got a lake house up there. When I kind of factored everything in that was the only reason. The coaches and everything were nice, the facilities were nice, but the main factor was the lake."

Nice to see a "student-athlete" with his priorities straight. I'm sure he'll go far.

When he's 3 years out of college and all washed up he'll be wishing he went to Stanford.

Must be a magical lake, LOL, I'd rather be around an ocean than a mosquito-infested lake but oooohhhhhkay.

Reading is fundamental people.

Here are two quotes from the blurb above- the media is really shameless those days-

first the title- "Lake house swings TE to Auburn"

then the quote from the player himself "The main reason I liked Clemson was because of the lake. We've got a lake house up there. When I kind of factored everything in that was the only reason. The coaches and everything were nice, the facilities were nice, but the main factor was the lake."

How does an innocuous statement which was basically "I really liked Clemson because of a lake house but I decided to not go" turn into an somewhat sensational dirty media tricky "Lake house swings TE to Auburn."

The first thing I thought was- they bought him a lake house. then I read the article and realized that the people who work at sports illustrated are idiots like the rest of us. totally made my day.

jdwalker your 100% correct. It was a trick to get people to read his post and support his ego and that's about all. It goes to show you that journalism in america isn't dead. It's just in the gutter where it has always been.

When I went to college, the J school people were all hippies that worked in the library. It was the only school at the university that did not have a minimum GPA requirement. They were mostly shunned by the other students.

Having worked as a military journalist, I know that editors don't always print everything that is written, and writers don't laways write the headlines to their stories. It sounds like bits and pieces of the story got "printed." Auburn is just a short drive away from Lake Martin, an incredibly beautiful lake. Maybe there's more to the story? In any case, we can use another TE at Auburn with the new offense.

I'm confused. He seems to say the 'lake house' was close to Clemson, not to Auburn; that after he considered everything the only thing going for Clemson was the lake house, which wasn't enough to sway him from Auburn. So in the end, the lake house had nothing to do with his decision to go to Auburn. Isn't that what the quote says?

May 19, 2008  12:58 PM ET

I think he is saying that the only reason he considered Clemson was the lake house. At the end of the day, the lake house wasn't a big enough factor.

I think the problem is the headline to this story is off.
