Donaghy bet on games he worked

Disgraced NBA referee Tim Donaghy bet on more than 100 games that he worked, the feds disclosed Friday. Donaghy, 41, pleaded guilty to passing inside info and betting recommendations to his friends, who placed wagers on the games over the course of three basketball seasons beginning in 2003. "The government's investigation revealed that Donaghy provided picks for anywhere from 30 to 40 games for each of those three seasons," Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Goldberg said in a letter filed Friday in Brooklyn Federal Court.

Report Offensive Commentok now tell us according to the gov't investigation if any of the other refs who worked the games with him were involved. they have had him in custody for how long and just got this info out of him. after his arrest you heard nothing out of him just like the CIA guy who was arrested for working for the other side for diamonds. talk about a gag order, can't believe it took them this long to find out that stuff.

Report Offensive CommentThough he isn't that much worse than NHL officials. They look like they are all betting on the Penguins.

Report Offensive CommentWith estimates that illegal wagering runs between 60 and over $100 Billion a year all together, it is amazing that corruption is this rare. Oh, OtherOne81 above has a mental disorder called the Rangers didn't win therefore, the officials stunk. The fact that I (and a lot of other people) could see the Penguins marching months ago has nothing to do with it. I have a blog on a lottery to cut down on illegal betting and make money for gov't.

This is a big story, in case you didn't notice, because he bet on hundreds of games.... including playoffs..... is he the only one? Doubt it.... ponder that when a phantom call punks your team this year.....

What a moron. This story makes any intelligent individual question any championship won by any team in the last several decades, at the very least.

Report Offensive CommentScorched earth on this POS: charge him under RICO, meaning you can seize every dime he has and everything he owns unless he can prove it did NOT come from illegal activity--almost impossible.
Then tell his wife and kids that they get to keep it... provided they have no further contact with him in any form at any time. I think that no job, no home, no family would send a pretty good message to others contemplating this kind of garbage.

Report Offensive CommentHow long ago did this news come out? This is old news. We all know that refs in the NBA dictate the action over the course of game by deciding when to and not to blow the whistle; this just shows that it could that some intentionally do it to give a certain team an advantage. I just hate it when these refs swallow their whistle late in the 4th when the losing team is trying to make a push, and calling tacky fouls the winning team has the ball late. 2 points at the end of the game is worth the same as two points early on. Referees are a joke, and they need to call games evenly for 48 minutes, not 43 which is the most case.
