Briggs backs Urlacher's demands
Posted: Saturday May 17, 2008 07:40AM ET
Bears linebacker Lance Briggs threw his support behind teammate Brian Urlacher in the latter's standoff with the team over a new contract. Briggs, the guest singer during the seventh-inning stretch Friday at Wrigley Field, went through a contract dispute of his own last year. ''I can relate [to Urlacher's situation] because I've been there,'' Briggs said. ''I know what Brian has meant to this organization and this city. That alone, and he being my big brother, I'll support him to the end. I think whatever is going on between him and the Bears will be worked out.''

Lets take a guess, which Bears LB will hold out next year?

Report Offensive CommentUm- don't sign a long term contract if you want to be the top paid player every year.
It's called priorities-
if you want long term stability- you GIVE UP short term windfalls.

Report Offensive CommentWhat is going on with football players being guest singers at baseball games? Is this an off-shoot of 'American Idol'? Does Simon know?
Can Lance Briggs sing any better than Romo? Gee, I hope so.

Report Offensive CommentWhy should Urlacher be the top paid linebacker in the league? He certainly isn't the best one out there. And honestly, does anyone still respect Lance Briggs or care what he has to say? He's the one that tried to make it look like the Bears were "insulting" him, and that because of that he wouldn't re-sign with them. But, lo and behold, when they throw more money at him than anyone else is willing to give him, where does he go? That's right. Shut up Briggs, enjoy your money and if you really care about Urlacher so much, why don't you give him some of your largely undeserved contract?

Report Offensive CommentThese players are becoming a joke, only Garcia deserves more...maybee.
I'd like to seem them work a minimum wage job for a few months, maybee they would appreciate what they have.
But then again, its hard to feed your family on 5 mill. a year.

I actually laughed out loud. I was thinking they could cut Cedric "Boatmaster" Benson.
I think that Favre could take some lessons from Lance Briggs on supporting your teammates. Remember when he threw Javon Walker under the bus a few years ago? I think that, more than anything, led to Javon leaving Green Bay.

Report Offensive CommentBRIGGS and URLACHER have one thing in common - kids!
Heard the news yesterday that BRIGGS was taken to court for child support; another woman was in the same courtroom pregnant with his baby; and another on the way in Arizona. Three kids by three different women. Now I know why BRIGGS want a new contract - to support his (born/unborn) kids!

Briggs has nothing to say about this contract unless he wants to pony up some money!
