Cup move for JR Motorsports?

Posted: Saturday May 17, 2008 08:53AM ET

Dale Earnhardt Jr. said Friday that his JR Motorsports team could move from the Nationwide Series up to the Sprint Cup level as soon as 2009. But the popular driver said such a move would occur only "f the right opportunity comes along with the right sponsorship and driver." However, former teammate and good friend Martin Truex Jr. wouldn't be on his short list of potential drivers should his team make the switch. Truex is currently in the final year of his contract at Dale Earnhardt Inc.

It's Not!

What about Brad K.......he seems to be developing well.

You go JR -- Brad and his team are ready for the big leagues...

Report Offensive Comment

if he doesn't start looking neater and shaving regularly he has a shot at home depot for a sponsor.........................they like the scruffy look

Report Offensive Comment

To make it in cup he'll need a much better driver. Brad is good but not cup material.

Crzy 88 I agree 100% with your comment on Keslowski, he is a few rides away from the big league. Good but not quite good enough.

Wouldn't Jr's Cup team be directly competing with DEI....this is exactly what Jr expected when teaming with Hendrick. Maybe Teresa will have a fire sale and Jr can reclaim the 8....haaaaaa, love it when a plan comes together.

Report Offensive Comment

JR will probably get Smoke to drive for him -- think about that!

Report Offensive Comment

I think it is a bad idea. I don't think JR motorsports is ready yet. Hell, their not exactly dominating the NNS.

And why isn't Truex on his list?

^And JR couldnt afford smoke, unless he gave him some sort of ownership. Possibly making it JR Smoke motorsports?

Report Offensive Comment

Now why on earth would Smoke even consider driving for JR Motorsports when he's almost finalized the deal to own the controling interest in his own team? Smoke is headin back to Chevys alright, but as a owner/driver.

I am not totally convinced that Mr. Stewart is going back to Chevrolet or
going anywhere just yet. When all is done he will be where the most money is.
Someone said that he has all the money he needs, I ask you , have you ever seen anyone have all the money they need. When the dust settles he will be sitting somewhere counting a large increase in income and the guy that shells that money out will be calling the shots for Tony Stewart.

Get a woman to drive, and no, not Danica "one win" Patrick!

Report Offensive Comment

We could have Hillary " no win " this year do the driving. Oh Lord, forgive me for that.

Report Offensive Comment

If Truex can opt out of the final year of his contract then that's who Jr is going to have drive his cup car. Currently, Truex has shown zero interest in re-signing with DEI, so you never know.

The Secret Service agent would drive for me! Driving ones self would be beneath a Clinton!

bill knew how to drive it home...............he knew how to get things below him
.............you should think about driving back to new york

It is too soon for Jr to do this and he knows it and will act accordingly. The last thing he wants is to struggle like MWR and a few other teams are.The most important thing on Jr's mind right now is that elusive win. Not saying that once he has one, he will move JRM to the cup level. Just saying that Jr is a one step at a time guy and he will move JRM when the time is right. That time is not here yet.

One more thing, Jr and Truex are friends and Jr has said that he would not sign Truex when he would be a new fledgling cup team, for Truex's sake. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see what Truex ends up with contract wise and with whom.
