Patriots coach Bill Belichick fired back at former employee Matt Walsh in an interview that aired on "The CBS Evening News" last night, questioning Walsh's credibility and disputing his claims that he was told to conceal his filming of opposing coaches' signals. The Patriots released video to CBS that showed Walsh filming signals. Walsh was shown at the top level of the old Foxboro Stadium, in an open area, wearing a blue winter Patriots jacket. "There was no deception," Belichick told CBS's Armen Keteyian. "You tell me how discreet it is." Belichick told CBS, "He's tried to make it seem like we're buddies, and belong to the same book club and all. That's really a long, long stretch."

Belichick, why add another log to the fire? If you want this to go away why are you trying to trash Walsh's rep? Its not going to help your cred any

May 17, 2008  07:24 AM ET

Sure Billy ,I believe you.Do you have video of Walsh wearing a Patriots jacket in say ...Pittsburgh or New Jersey? And why did Weiss and Mangini both take off at about the same time?OK I'm done ranting.

May 17, 2008  09:00 AM ET

I misinterpreted the rules. Say it with me. I misinterpreted the rules.

May 17, 2008  09:25 AM ET

Sure....thats what he says. Belichick really pis*** me off.

May 17, 2008  09:36 AM ET

Have you ever tried to proclaim your innocence by remaining silent? Juries automatically think that person is guilty, after all if he wasn't guilty he'd tell them, right? And there aren't any innocent people in any of this nation's prisons either. Yeah, right.

bill, shut up. we're tired of both sides of this. put an asterisk next to the whole sorry incident and lets all move on.

May 17, 2008  10:46 AM ET

There is a Roger Clemens around every professional sports corner. Bill meet Roger. Bill meet OJ. Bill meet the door.

May 17, 2008  10:49 AM ET

I dont know how you people can even compare the murder of someone, ala OJ to taping a signal. You are insane

May 17, 2008  11:00 AM ET

Hank, do you really believe anyone can damage Walsh's credibility more than he has himself?
He wanted his 15 mins and now he has it.
What the hell does this punk know about diagramming offensive plays? If he was that smart he wouldnt have been a gopher for most of his career with the Patriots. Im willing to bet he never ever even met Belichick. Thats like me saying I worked at Bank of Boston in 1990 so therefore I knew the President, Ira Stephanian. I knew who HE was, but he sure the hell had no idea who I was.

Agreed, Maybe I'm just mad that Beichick said anything. I just want this whole story to go away!

May 17, 2008  11:21 AM ET

Bill makes it sound like Walsh was Shooter McGavin's crony in doing all the bad work on his own with no guidance. Bill is a fink.

May 17, 2008  11:25 AM ET

You did nothing wrong; everyone is out to get you, Bill.

May 17, 2008  11:33 AM ET

Belicheat belongs to a book club?

May 17, 2008  11:45 AM ET

this is like rove and bush and mccain pointing the finger at others because of the war in iraq. this man has hurt pro football like drugs and win at all costs. sick sick sick. BLAME OTHERS WOW.

May 17, 2008  11:50 AM ET

What an idiot...you just gave him more credence. I suppose Belicheat's been taking notes from Rogeroid cause it looks like he's going up the same path to self-destruction.

May 17, 2008  12:06 PM ET

for months and months, the haters kept screaming for Bill to talk. Now he does and you **** anyway.
What gives?
Were you happier when Walsh was able to say whatever he wanted with no comment from team or people he slandered?
Does that make it all better for you? Easier to hate?
SO let me make sure I understand where you're coming from.
Matt Walsh can say whatever he wants to whoever he wants, make accusations, slander or libel.
and absolutely NOONE should question him? not even those he accuses?
Nice world ya'll are living in... Planet of the Apes maybe?

Just the fact that any team would employ someone to tape opposing team sidelines is crooked. Someone on the Pats knew this was being done, and should have known it was wrong. I never knew this was being done by any team in the NFL, let alone the Pats. If the Browns were caught doing this, I'd feel it would be just as wrong. You're supposed to know to respect the integrity & history of the game. Belicheat decided to ignore these unwritten rules, and has brought the Pats into the spotlight because of his actions.

They have been fined, lost draft picks, and who can forget 18 & Ohhh. Everyone in the NFL should now know the rules of the game. What they can, and can't get away with. Lets put this story to bed and move on. How long are they going to drag this story on for?

May 17, 2008  12:47 PM ET

It is funny, these blogs do not discuss how to prevent or what to do when cheating occurs. This whole mess is still going because the commish is in bed with Kraft. If the NFL would just come out and say what is past is past, and this is what we are going to those that do this in the future, this spygate issue would go away. But, for Belicheat to come out and say that he misinterpreted the rules is a joke and just inflames people. I wish Belicheat would get banned from football so we could move on. The Patriots are a great team, but this scandal will taint them for years to come. I agree that as a punishment, that Belicheat should never be voted to the Hall of Fame, he belongs in the Hall of Shame.

Then to state every team did this is so lame. I wish they would ban electronic devices from the players on the field. Let's put integrity back into the game.
