Race to host 2012 Super Bowl

When the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee makes its presentation Tuesday to the NFL owners in Atlanta in its bid for the 2012 game, it believes it will be playing with a trump card. "Last year (in a bid for the 2011 game), we were going in on the promise that we would deliver a good Super Bowl," committee president Bob Sullivan said. "This year, we're going in on the report card. We're kind of promoting the fact that the report card is in and (we received an) A-plus. We think that that's a huge advantage for us." Sullivan is hoping it will be hard for owners to say no to Arizona two years in a row. If they do, they will either reward Indianapolis for its new stadium, slated to open this season, or head back to Houston to do the Texas two-step.

im racing to the bowl (toilet)

i cant contain myself any longer with quality stories like this

May 18, 2008  10:43 AM ET

Give it to Indy.

May 18, 2008  11:07 AM ET

Flatline item.

May 18, 2008  11:12 AM ET

The next Super Bowls are: Tampa Bay (2009), Miami (2010), and Dallas (2011). I really think Indy should get it and then go back to AZ. The AZ Super Bowl week was good, though. However, any excuse to get some shrimp cocktail at St Elmos is good with me!!

The Americas team gets a Super Bowl 2 years after building a new stadium?? Miami.....Haven't played a SB there in a while. Why don't the just rotate the SB through every stadium on a 32 year loop. I'd love to see a SB in Green Bay, Cleveland, Foxboro, Seattle, Meadowlands. Snow, Mud, Cold ect...

Are they thinking that the game would not sell out if it rains?? No one will watch because it's in Chicago?? The new Americas team stadium is going to be absolutely insane though. Can't wait to see it.

May 18, 2008  11:31 AM ET

Don???t ever have a Super Bowl in Arizona again, that???s all we need is a bozo with a gun making terrorist threats

May 18, 2008  11:32 AM ET

Indianapolis will get it. They won't host the Super Bowl in the same state for two straight years, so that throws Houston out. The Arizona Super Bowl was crap with no atmosphere. Indianapolis is the obvious choice. Businesses have already donated 25 million for the game. We know we will get it.

You're just bitter because Washington will never....ever host a Superbowl...as Obama would say.

May 18, 2008  11:33 AM ET

They need to make a rotation for the Super Bowl like what they have with the NCAA Final 4.

Make it Tampa Bay, Houston, Miami, Dallas, Indianapolis. That sounds good.

What? Thats stupid. California hosted XXI and XXII

May 18, 2008  11:39 AM ET

That happened 20 years ago. Miami and Tampa is explanable because Miami is a staple for the game. Dallas and Houston just started hosting games. The Lube will be the best stadium in the league next year, and it will be the 2nd best when Dallas is opened. There is no reason why it shouldn't be held here.

May 18, 2008  11:41 AM ET

Indy will get a Superbowl sooner are later, its to nice of a stadium not too.

Not sure I'll be able to afford them.

I thought they were tearing down the Hoosierdome and building a bigger one?

No kidding Ray. That's the way football is supposed to be played. Lambeau in February every year. The Chicago/Indy one two years ago was the closest they've come to real football conditions. The league is getting weak.

Hank, I hope you have a seven figure income.

The bowl is a big money event, and will never be played in a stadium the subjects people who are paying 10,000+ a seat to freezing cold wet conditions .
Arizona did a great job, and should definitly be in top locations for a near future consideration.
If you want a bowl, you better have one on top of your stadium .

May 18, 2008  01:11 PM ET

No, if you want a super bowl you have to have a stadium in warm weather. Doesn't really matter how new or how nice the stadium is. If it's not located in warm weather it's next to impossible to get the super bowl. How many super bowls have been played in cold weather locations? I see 3 (out of 42).
