NASCAR to clean up crabby cars

Expect NASCAR to tell Sprint Cup teams that they've gone far enough - and in some cases, too far - with making crooked cars. Sprint Cup Series director John Darby said Saturday that teams will get a memo, likely this week, telling them to "clean up" the way they're turning their wheels to help the cars handle better. "They need some of that, but there are some of them that have pushed it," Darby said. The rear wheels on some of the cars were turned to the point that some were having difficulty being pushed onto the scales used in inspection.

Can't say I'm shocked. Some of the cars I've seen lately look really out of shape. I have been waiting for NASCAR to make a clarification on this. I'm sure they will limit the angle to a substantial degree.

Sounds like NASCAR has had enough of the "creativity" of some of the Crew Chiefs. They really have started looking odd in terms of being "cocked" to the left in the straightaways. But its like anything else.... somebody always ruins it for the rest when they go overboard. This new ruling by NASCAR doesn't surprise me. Watch some team get nailed for points or suspensions before some people get the message.

Kyle Petty had the wheels turned the wrong way!

Hillary; Now that was funny! LOL

Duh -- I think the rear end was to the right? Actually -- that tactic acts much like curb feelers -- you know when you're too close to the fence!! LOL

Dumb question. So by making the car turn better the car is sideways is that hurting their speed down the straight aways?

A little, but being able to tear through a turn faster than the next guy is what wins you races. It's how Carl racked up his wins so far this year. You'd see him coming down the straightaway and his car was so sideways you'd think he had lost control of his back end, but then he'd hit the turn and the car would just blast through it.

Carl is going to get a few more wins this year. They have to figure out a way to run with the Toyotas. If they can run with them Carl can beat them. He's like poetry in motion on the big tracks.

Seymore Who Who I like the way you described Carl. I agree.

Who are the drivers that are doing this the most?

Packer guy -- it is called "leanin' on the air" ... dirt late models have done this forever. Go Pack!

A couple of weeks ago Carl Edwards was on WindTunnel and they talked about this. Apparantly, Roush was the first team to figure this out. Now, everybody is doing it.

It looks very odd, but it works. Carl said that it can be a "handful" down the straights, but that it gets through the turns much better.
