The exclusive negotiating period between Office Depot and Roush Fenway Racing in regards to sponsorship of Carl Edwards beyond his season has expired, Office Depot Public Relations Director Mindy Kramer confirmed. "We're looking at options for 2009, including Carl and other things at Roush -- nothing to report yet," Kramer said at Lowe's Motor Speedway. "When you're talking about a significant investment, it's difficult to get those things done in a short period of time," said Kramer, who declined to say whether Office Depot had started talking to other teams besides Roush Fenway.

the price for carl edwards has reached super star levels....................as i said in the past ...................follow the money ......its going to ruin nascar.....................pretty soon the fans will need a scorecard to keep track of drivers and owners and teams.........................its going to happen

lydia lips; How true and also how sad. I think Nascar is going to go the way of MLB,NFL NBA NHL and all the rest of professional sports. Money will do Nascar in as it has ruined all other sports.

yea, i'm sure a bunch of my fellow rednecks are going to storm an office depot after a big edwards win.
please.
win on sunday used to sell cars on monday, but nobody has ever proved advertising on the side of the car sold anything.

PIMP; Obviously you are a lot smarter than the people responsible for the advertising dollars of the companies that spend millions on Nascar. It is a proven fact that Nascar fans are loyal to products hyped on the cars. Perhaps you and your fellow rednecks don't know how to operate a pen or pencil, so it's quite possible you would never enter an Office Depot.

I don't think it's sad. NASCAR is finally getting parity in their sport. And like all other sports, parity is a GOOD thing for investors, advertisers and fans alike. When last year ended, who would have thought Gibbs Racing and Bush-Baby would be leading the way each week in the #18 Interstate Batteries Toyota?

I don't see any problem with carl being worth more money and sponsors having to take that into negotiations. As employees of some company somewhere, it does not matter what job it is, we all want to be paid our value. The only difference is the amount of dollars in Nascar, but the premise is the same.
A sponsor would and should expect to pay more for a Carl than a Micheal W. because of skills and results etc.
I just don't get the negative opinions on money in Nascar. Their expenses go up yearly and the return on the driver is their investment payback.
